Appears this happened last month but the region is under lockdown due to civil conflict. Survivors report that soldiers came to take the Ark of the covenant from the Church and a massacre ensued with 750 murdered.

Makes one wonder if they have it.

www.christiantoday.com...

A Belgium-based peacebuilding non-profit is reporting 750 people killed in an attack on Ethiopia church. The attack happened at the Maryam Tsiyon Church in Aksum, also known as the Church of Our Lady Mary of Zion. The locals told EEPA that the attackers wanted to take the Ark of the Covenant to the Ethiopian capital, Addis Ababa. The organisation said the massacre was carried out by Ethiopian federal troops and Amhara militia.

“I’ve not heard more than rumours about the looting of the Arc from Maryam Tsion, but if it’s true that up to 750 died defending it, it is conceivable that the attackers didn't stop there,” said Michael Gervers, a professor of history at the University of Toronto, according to The Telegraph.

"The government and the Eritreans want to wipe out the Tigrayan culture. They think they’re better than rest of the people in the country. The looting is about destroying and removing the cultural presence of Tigray,” Gervers explained.

Wait a second. . . by any chance did the 750 victims have their faces melted off?

I wonder if the real ark is actually there? Who knows after all of these years where the real one actually is, reproductions were probably made thousands of years ago of the ark.

I think that one was supposed to be from Solomon's son. Its probably not the real one.

The real one was probably in the Smithsonian or 80 years, and was sold to China 20 years ago

If it was the real ark, then their effort would be in vain as it would annihilate them pretty quick!

I doubt its the real ark!

Same place that King Solomon acquired the tools to build the Temple! What you can be sure of, is that its not in any place that promotes worship of an image before God.

I spent several weeks researching the Ark. Every thing I could read. I remember the Ethiopia story.

Pinpointing when it disappeared is tough. Didnt God just come from Israel, when he appeared to Ezekiel by the tributary in Babylon? God left the temple in Israel in disgust, after they brought idols into the temple. You would think the Babylonians would have taken it previously, unless it was hidden.

Sudan has had the military on the border to stop constant harassment of farmers from the ethiopian side recently. Ethiopia is also prime to be fractured this decade due to some old territorial claims and aspirations from northern states/provinces or land dispites whateber you call them. Its actually been fairly avtive for several months now.

However, Ethiopia is also China's hub into africa. If ethiopia does succumb to increased civil strife and fractures or goes unstable Chinas major logistics hub into the continent will be neutralised for years.

I increasingly suspect that China will deploy "peacekeepers" if such a scenario approaches realization. Could become a new flash point between China and The USA this decade.

Well, the Ethiopian government thought it was real enough to kill 750 people to try to get it. That says something.

Something not very nice, either way you think about it. And we're just now hearing about it? Thank you free market news media.

It depends on what you mean by "the real ark."

It's possible that this was a 'real ark' but older than the sort of one shown in the Indiana Jones movie. It's been a long while since I read about this but iirc what this Ethiopian church probably had was basically a large drum that would be mounted on two long poles. So the older sort of ark would have been just a big drum carried at the front of the army for a drummer to beat on for the marching army. No gold, no rectangular box, no 'radioactive' whatever, no 'radio to god' etc. And it's also possible they had a big old drum that had nothing to do with ancient Israel etc.

Another article though the video attached is likely some other event and not the attack on the chirch

newsla.localad.com...

Maryam Tsiyon Church in Aksum, Ethiopia, a church that claims they have the Ark of the Covenant, was reportedly attacked by the Ethiopian government amidst a war in the region.

Local residents believe the church was attacked so the ark could be taken. The residents, hiding in the church while the fighting was happening outside, were reportedly brought out and killed by the insurrectionists. This took place in the Tigray region of Ethiopia, a place that has been under constant war.

According to an analysis from the Europe External Programme with Africa, the Ethiopian National Defense Force, ENDF, reported that “Maryam Tsiyon Church has been attacked (local people believe with the aim to take the Ark of Covenant to Addis Ababa). Hundreds of people hiding in the Maryam Tsiyon Church were brought out and shot on the square in front. The number of people killed is reported as 750.”

There is also footage showing the massacre’s aftermath, which show some of the people who were killed by the Ethiopian government’s military. The military is fighting with an anti-communist insurrectionary force that controls the region.

Scholars who are not living there, however, have welcomed the leadership as a “defense” of Tigrayan values, according to those interviewed by The Christian Post. The group, Tigray People’s Liberation Front, is responsible for overthrowing communism in Ethiopia in 1991. They dominated the political front until they were disbanded as a party following mostly government-originated reports of war crimes.

The war between the communist insurrectionists and the ENDF has also caused mass displacement. According to the report, “the UN OCHA report identifies that [there are] 4.5 million people needing emergency assistance, of which 2.2 million IDPs. However only 77 thousand people in Mekelle and 25 thousand in Mai Ayni and Adi Harush refugee camps have received food support from the UN and its partners.”

So, in addition to the fighting, it appears a great many have been displaced in the region.”

It's true about China's involvement in Africa. Eastern Asia's involvement in Africa goes back many decades, all the way back to the 60's and beyond. It's like anything China does, a slow, unrelenting, pressure of change.

Ethiopia and surprisingly Somalia have great strategic importance.

I suspect this event was likely more political than religious. And, I further suspect this whole region (i.e. Ethiopia, Eritrea, Sudan and Somalia) will be the site of the next major world conflict. China is not going going to make a stand against the West in SE Asia or the South Pacific; that's just saber rattling and bluster to get the SE Asian nations to behave. The real battle will be for control of eastern Africa.

Agreed. However, China's involvement with Africa goes back a long long time. Way back to the time of the Silk Route which led from China all the way to Eastern Africa. Their involvement in trade may have even preceded the Silk Route.

I had to look at the story again and what I was originally going to post is a little different now. Just a couple of words changed it. Kinda funny.

So is this the church that just has the one priest guarding the supposed ark? The one that has all the weird stories about it and how the keepers get sick presumably from the ark being there?

I don't know if that has any real bearing on the story but I'd just like to know for reference.

The Ark of the Covenant, according to Ron Wyatt (deceased) is not in Ethiopia, but in old Jerusalem.

More of Ron Wyatt’s findings

And as they were talking about Roman antiquities, without warning Ron's left hand pointed at a hole in the rock where there was a pile of garbage, stones, and trash, along with two dead cats, at the bottom of the cliff face. The people living in Jerusalem were using this sacred holy place as a rubbish dump, and Ron said, "That's Jeremiah’s Grotto and the Ark of the Covenant is in there!"

It took a month for this news to get here?

Did I just wake up in the early 19th century in a frontier town in some sparsely populated territory waiting for news from half way around the world?

What the hell is wrong with Africa? Don't they have a pony express or telegraph lines yet?
