I thought you were asking for the origin of the word "rapture", so that's what I gave you. That's where it comes from. Or strictly speaking (having checked my dictionary) from the mediaeval Latin RAPTURA.

If you want the Greek for "We shall be taken up", I've just checked my Greek N.T. and find that the word in 1 Thessalonians ch4 v17 is ARPAGESOMETHA.

As far as i know, ancient Greek is closer to the original tongue the old testament is written in.

You will find in your Greek lexicon the word ARPAZO. The entry will give more details. The word in the N.T. text is more complex, because it's future tense and passive voice ("will be lifted up")

Not really. Hebrew is quite different from Greek. In any case, I don't think the "rapture" comes from the Old Testament.

Rapture-believing Christians have put all of their eggs in one basket; the hope that they will be taken away before the great tribulation and not have to go through it. Where in the Bible have you ever seen any of God's people rescued before tribulation? They go through it and are given safe haven. Their faith is tested, that's the point of tribulation in the first place, to ensure a righteous people enter the kingdom of heaven.

Consider the punch to the gut it will be if you believe in the rapture, but suddenly find yourself smack dab in the middle of the worst events in human history. Will your faith falter? Will it fail completely? Rapture-believing Christians need to prepare for that eventuality, in the least, so they don't fall away when the realization hits home.

Read scripture. Find out the truth.

• The tribulation is not 7 years long: Daniel 9:27 is not referring to the tribulation, it's the timeframe between AD 27 and AD 34; the baptism of Jesus, the crucifixion, the stoning of Stephen, the ceasing of sacrifice and oblation, the Gospel going to the Gentiles.
  
• Jesus comes audibly and visibly: 1 Thessalonians 4:16-17, 1 Corinthians 15:51-55, Acts 1:10-11, Matthew 24:27, Hebrews 9:28, Revelation 6:14-17. The last trumpet is at the second coming.
  
• Jesus comes like a thief in the night. 1 Thess 5:1-3, Matthew 24:42-44. In context of the great tribulation and second coming.
  
• Protected through the great tribulation, not before it. Revelation 3:10, Revelation 16:15, Matthew 13:39, Psalms 91:1-10.
  
• The falling away and the son of perdition come first, before Jesus comes. 2 Thessalonians 2:1-4.
  
• One taken, one left behind is clearly in context of the second coming. Luke 17:26-37. As the days of Noah, as the days of Lot—saved or lost.
  
• Those saved go to the marriage supper of the Lamb. Those left behind become a feast for birds. Revelation 19:7, 16-18, Matthew 25:1-13.

Not in a word for word translation.

I man that its closer in the time that Hebrew versions were written. That it is closer as a living translation if that makes any sense.

He will keep his people from the hour. Those that are faithful. Two powerful witnesses arrive in Israel to testify before the world. Many Jews then realize that Christ was their Messiah, and evangelize the world. Those who accept Christ will be martyred, and then join the others.

DeathSlayer is right on the money on the time openings. I suspect the tribulation starts in fall of this year. So if you believe in being spirited away for the feast, it could happen any moment, and likely before this fall. If you believe in Christians suffering through the entire tribulation, well, you need to get the hell out of the us now.

Im not at all embarassed to write these things, because I am certain you will all witness them all first hand.

You can laugh if you want. People did before. Even Christians. My family didnt believe in God, but decided to follow instructions in a prophecy. We left like we were told, and went where we were instructed( even though my family was like royalty in the Ottoman empire).

I was told the Christians even laughed at us. They said " you are foolish to sell your land and home, and leave for another continent. There is nothing to the prophecy. It is all nonsense".

We got the sad news a few years later everyone was dead.

My great grandmothers uncle, who was Armenian, was working at a bank in Turkey. He found some serious error that affected a lot of money, and he popped up on the Sultan's radar. He was summoned to the Sultan and told " not only am I putting you in charge of the Empire's finances, you are now in charge of my personal finances as well. They also became best friends.

There was issue in Israel at the Church of Nativity, where someone reportedly stole a metal star. It was between the Russian Orthodox and the Armenian's, and they threw down. This lead to a expensive military confrontation between Russia and the Ottoman's. The conflict ended, but the Ottoman's were broke.

They came up with this idea to sell land, complete with legal titles, in order to get some coin back it their purse. Jews were not allowed to own land then. I think it was a real serious issue. So what my great grandmothers uncle did, was, sell land to the Jews in Israel anyway. I think the Sultan almost was removed because of that, but he backed his best friend, and stuck to his guns. The Sultan weathered the political storm and so did my ancestor ( There is a Wikipedia article in another language complete with picture)

Great great Uncle sold our property for Great grandma ( women couldnt own or sell land), and we left. Great Great Uncle stayed, and was killed in a horseback accident on the stallion the Sultan gave him. I dont know if that was the same Sultan that ordered the killing of my people or not.

As far as Rapture goes. I believe in the "pan theory". Its all going to pan out ok regardless.

Rapture timing is irrelevant. we are supposed to live out Christian lives regardless of the timing.

personally I prefer the term 'exfiltrate'.

The best defense is to live spiritually prepared always.

Tomorrow is not given to any of us, and none can be sure that we will be here from one second to the next, and I'm not talking about any Rapture, but simple life. I could drop over dead before I make the next keystroke, so the best preparation is to do your best to walk right with Him always as best you can.

Then you know that if He comes just for you tomorrow because it's your time or He calls home his church tomorrow because we are in the End of Days, you will be ready.

And for everything else, you live life as you always do.

Noah and his family rescued before the great flood.

Lot and his family (minus his wife) rescued before the destruction of Sodom.

Israel (the people) was protected from the judgements on Egypt, prior to the Exodus.

Believers are saved from ultimate judgement.

Just as the doctrine of election was invented by Calvin?

Just because someone describes what they see in clear detail, doesn't mean they invented it.

Over my years as a Christian, I went from saying the rapture wouldn't happen prior to the tribulation, to now seeing clearly that it the Bible teaches it will happen prior to the tribulation. I was diluted by some authors who didn't understand what they were teaching.
