I woke up this morning to a message in my "social media" email account saying someone using a MacOs operating system had used my Apple ID to sign into iCloud from a web browser.

I haven't used an Apple product in several years so this was strange.   Sure enough, someone had accessed my account at 2:30am while I was sleeping.  There was also 2 different MacBooks listed as linked devices to my account and I've never owned a MacBook.

Sure people hack accounts all the time and all that, but what I find suspicious is that yesterday I deleted several social media accounts and some of them used the same email address that Apple iD used.

With all the shenanigans going on right now with big tech it's a strange coincidence that an unused iCloud account would suddenly be attractive to a hacker.

You have been ... Identified. Are you affiliated with 'the bad guys'?

Kidding aside: Thanks for the warning.

The lists I'm probably on. Lol

You are welcome. Hopefully it was just a random hack.

Where are those apple products you use to have? Is it possible someone is using one of them accessing your info?
When you deleted those social media accounts could you have also unknowingly signed them out of your account and they got caught trying to sign back on?

What I’m trying to say is they may have been there all along and you deleting those accounts exposed them when they tried to sign back in.

Happened to me when I was serving over in South Korea. It wasn't random. The Chinee were going after IDs and Passwords. When they found them, they'd go after other accounts hoping your passwords would work there too.

Thanks for the logical suggestions on what could have happened.

I've only ever had an old iPad and I still have it but haven't turned it on in months if not a year or more. I'll check it isn't on and trying to connect although I'll probably have to charge it first.

I thought the same thing about the social media linked somehow to Apple login but I never used apps for these things so I am trying to think what might be trying to sign back in?

I'm sure there is myriad ways things get connected to each other on various devices but a MacBook Pro 13" and another MacBook was connected devices to my account; I disconnected them but who knows if that info was somehow conveyed to those machines.

I'm not worried about anything because the account was basically a throw away account; I just find it strange after yesterday and thought the forum might want to be on the lookout just in case...

Thanks again.

I use separate passwords for things but went ahead and changed my Apple password and my email password.

I'm with you! If someone actually hacked I to my icloud they saw a bunch of nothing.

I was worried that someone might have actually been using it but I can't see that it has ever stored anything...

I was honestly shocked about "cloud" availability. I had been "clouding-saving" my stuff in my desk drawer. Home. With me. Safe. For 15 yrs in 2005.

I have every photo, film, video, music, document, spreadsheets, contacts and acct #'s I've ever had...back to Windows 95.

In 1995.1, 2 or 3 Thousand Terrabites external drive. Small, $50 US bucks.

Why "kidding aside?" I think you may have a valid point there.

I am only attaching for your reference. I am not pushing or stating that its factual. However, some one wrote about this so here's the link. I used my TOR browser and this popped:

I would be very suspicious. I had the same basic thing happen to me. Yesterday I deleted all of my blog posts, unlinked everything from twitter and Facebook and now it's a blank site.

22 subscribers overnight through word press. I had none, 0 before last night. Something is afoot, methinks.

That is strange if you are picking up subscribers all of a sudden.

I'm sure there is some sort of way TPTB watch social media and get tipped off when someone starts to scrub their social media. I bet they are having a field day with everyone dumping facebook and Twitter.

I read somewhere a few days ago that we shouldn't be surprised if Trump uses the Presidential Alert System to "Tweet" since that's his last form of social media he has left.

Wonder if Lin Wood is jumping on that.

If you’re still using this Apple ID, change the password and don’t click on anything in the email that was sent.It could be a phishing attempt also.

Thank you, there was no link in the email but I wouldn't have clicked on it if there was.

It turned out it wasn't a phishing attempt since someone did access my account.
