I find it amazing how leaders in command could one day use such simulation scenarios as their own tactical plans based on the results.

Just think, command decisions involving:
* After-effects of global nuclear war
* After-effects of biological/chemical warfare
* Domestic revolt to "change"
* Bird flu outbreak
* Social effect of extreme weather

Yeah, just think....

I think what's scarier, is,
someone in quasi-command, may eventually,
treat the results,of one of these simulations, as fact,
and implement actions based on
this 21st Century version of 'Risk'.

Even seemingly irrelavent events, can sometimes
trigger unforeseen consequences, leading to a totally
different outcome, as most RTSG gamers know.

www.theregister.com... ...a whole-Earth simulation will be a colossal challenge.

"(SWS) is a hungry beast," Blank said. "A lot of data will be required to make this thing even credible."

That would be a lot of data input. Who's gonna do it?

Would be great to see a simulation , tho!

When you wonder how the world got so crazy in the passed decade or two, this may be the reason. Idiots in bunkers using a fancy game of Risk to justify budgets into clandestine projects that got us to this point. Wonder what the simulations might say now... “WHOOPS!

It makes you wonder how real is the reality vs the simulation to those who make the plans?

Of course, they work hard to make the "what if" scenarios become real by creating new and more destructive weapons systems, supposedly to develop defenses before our enemies can get a hold of the weapons being developed.

It's insane really, to create the monster you fear just because it is possible to do so, unless you want to unleash the monster on your enemies, then it all makes sense. They have lied about the simulations, it is not for defensive purposes but to plan offensive moves. The need for defense planning is merely a consequence of making the offensive moves for reducing losses and to retain an advantage.

The problem with simulations is RNG.

There is no way to generate "randomness", and if we could, then, we would have the problem of predicting "randomness".

The Universe will always throw us a curveball.

If they act on simulations, as has happened before, we're all screwed.

The system will act with the natural randomness of the population. The Data generates itself.

All the system needs is "what if" and a bunch of data to use. The population is the data, constantly uploading, downloading, calling, texting, messaging, emailing, sharing tweeting etc etc etfjfhdkjhsmekfjbhsmekjhbmqskljhn.

Welcome to the machine...

We are the commodity. I'm not disputing that they can use this in very powerful ways. Having AI whittle the data until they can predict and cause trends and such. I'm just thinking they have problems with specifics.

Using AI and Data:

Could they with one act kick off the next Arab Spring? I don't think so...

Could they kick off the next Arab Spring? For sure...

We are moving forward in leaps and bounds though, especially with data crunching and AI...anything is possible...
