At first, the mice did well.
Their numbers doubled every 55 days. But after 600 days, with enough space to accommodate as many as another 1,600 rodents, the population peaked at 2,200 and began to decline precipitously—straight down to the extinction of the entire colony—in spite of their material needs being met with no effort required on the part of any mouse.
The turning point in this mouse utopia, Calhoun observed, occurred on Day 315 when the first signs appeared of a breakdown in social norms and structure. Aberrations included the following: females abandoning their young; males no longer defending their territory; and both sexes becoming more violent and aggressive. Deviant behavior, sexual and social, mounted with each passing day. The last thousand mice to be born tended to avoid stressful activity and focused their attention increasingly on themselves.

Have you heard of the "mouse utopia experiments"?
A doctor in the 1960s decided to see what would happen if he provided a huge living area free from predators with food and water in abundance for a small group of mice, who then bred into a bigger group etc.
Easy life for the mice huh?
Not for long-

So,you could say that for mice at least-If you make their lives too convienient, which makes them shut down from doing all the stuff they are designed for-searching for food/running from cats etc
Well, thats one way to totally break "mouse civilisation"
Could the same be applied to human civilisation?
The doctor who did the study seemed to think so.

I think modern society makes all of us a bit mad..
You get born into a body designed and honed over countless eons to be the apex predator/explorer/survival hunter of the planet, perfectly tuned for the job-then you spend your life getting made to sit in boxes, learn rules and limits and press buttons and move about in metal tubes or cans, off to school, office, factory whatever BS..
That's not what we are designed for,and I reckon thats why humans have gone collectivley insane.

Interesting study, coincidentally I was thinking earlier today how people actually seem to make life hard for themselves if it gets too easy. We are our own worst enemy in many ways... even if we manage to become a millionaire and have everything we want, we still find ways to be unhappy.
It's interesting to note that before Covid-19 happened the world was in a very good place, economies were booming and finally recovering from the '08 collapse, unemployment was hitting record lows in many nations, and we were living in the most peaceful times in human history, in large part due to the many historic peace deals that Trump made happen.
How quickly all of that progress can be turned around... now we have massive economic problems and massive unemployment which will cause problems for many years to come. What's really sad to me is that all of this suffering could have been avoided, it's almost entirely self-inflicted as a result of fear and propaganda.
