Now I'm not in any way trying to imply that that would ever happen....but, what if some super secret agency acquired ATS? What would they do?
Would they devise a way to gradually shut the site down so as not to arouse suspicion? Or would they keep it open in order to keep tabs on us wacky conspiracy theorists and all the things we think we know are going on?

What say you, ATS?

Anything the want to know about us they can find out. They can plant stories here with nothing more than a social media account to sign up with.

Why buy the cow when the milk is free?

Either way I can guarantee this site is heavily monitored by many agencies around the world

Either Republican or Democrat government, I think they would keep it running. Keep an eye out as you suggest and experiment with mind control to boot as according to members a good portion of us already are.

That was freaky.... I opened the thread and there were no comments....then I typed mine and posted only to find one in front of me....with the same little saying included....is that some kind of fluke or is it syncronicity or is it some kind of inside joke?
How cool is that !

Will the new owners know who we've starred?

Hmmm?

That might be informative, and valuable, for the new social credit system.

If I had unlimited black budget funds available to me I'd buy the cow just because I could.

Not a super secret agency, but IBM's W.A.T.S.O.N.? A Super secret Ai.

It's smart enough to create an acct on ATS, See the red For Sale banner and make and offer SO can't refuse. No need to have the master ATS cpu's and server info, Watson just aquired everything it needed and stored in it's own cloud.

Edit: sorry ummmm MILK

I completely agree.

I'd fathom a guess that there may be a few infiltrators as well.

Why spread 1 big lie when you can flood a skeptic mental space with many lies, having individuals pick and choose the lie that suits them thereby obfuscating the search for truth.

If you divide the skeptics it makes it difficult to bring conspiracies to light.
The mud pit is a prime example.

The best way to avoid this trap is cooperation and providing well thought out and civil discussions with sources, fact checking and research.

Do a little research and you'll see that your hypothetical isn't a hypothetical. This came up and was discussed over a decade ago here, and what they found out... I'll let you discover that on your own.

They could use it as a think tank, and to try to see what people would say or how they would react to potential changes they are planning. They probably do it now, but are just here as members.

Back in the day there was the conspiracy theory that the CIA owned the National Enquirer so they could print those "I gave birth to an alien" type stories as a way of discrediting ufo sightings.

What fun. They could play with our heads to see what we do.

If I were them I'd start by bringing back an older, established account. One that hasn't been much more than sporadically active in the last ten years. Just to see how things are going.
