McConnell blocks Senate Democrats' move to pass $2,000 coronavirus checks

I agree with Trump, 600 is chump change. I have no skin in the game as we do not get any.
I know some people are desperately needing these funds like yesterday.
It would be good to know the funds will help some bridge the gap. There are a lot of countries
that have helped it's citizens so much more. At this point it seems too little too late...

Yes. It would help. My 18 year old and 22 year old (both in college) kids did NOT receive a stimulus from earlier this year. Several of their college friends also did not receive any stimulus money. If they can get backdated stimulus funds added to whatever we get now ($600???) maybe, just maybe they can get close to what the illegal immigrants are entitled to; which is $1800. I feel that is fair parity in this madness as the heavily-led Republican Senate blocked Trump's veto. It's a shame and outrageous move for the Senate as we all know Treasury has said they can cut the $2000 check today, if they had to. Many of these so-called republicans are just plain hating on Trump for no reason. SMH.

Same boat but my daughter did get a huge chunk of change from the cares act through her school.
They sent out an email asking if the students were impacted in any way due to Covid. She listed every additional
expense and they gave it to her in days..

I think Trump wants to WIN at being the president who has increased the deficit the most in 4 years, if he hasn't so already.

Winning.
This years spending as shown on the included graph is eye watering.

Beginning in 2016, increases in spending on Social Security, health care, and interest on federal debt have outpaced the growth of federal revenue.

In 2020, federal spending increased in response to the COVID-19 pandemic

I think it's a ridiculous amount of money to just give out to Americans who are absolutely not used to having that much money.

What I mean by this is , A lot of People are going to take this money and spend it on Drugs , Alcohol and Gambling or worse .

There are Families who need this money desperately yes , but there are also way to many people who are going to end up killing themselves or getting killed over this money.

Money fixes nothing .

There are about 121 million US households. We could give every household $10,000. It would be $1.2 trillion.

I say screw foreign aide for the year, cut a check to everyone to be used to pay down debt or dig themselves out of whatever hole they are in. Or better yet, double it to $20,000 and screw foreign aide for the next two years.

Go big or go home.

True. However, you cannot fix stupid.

You can't necessarily give tax cuts because most of the lower income does not really pay much in taxes to start with...

You could setup some kind direct payment... for example, you could use your $2k to pay a credit card bill or landlord. You could do a direct credit against tax return with paid receipt.

Really?? I need to find out more about that and see if they can backdate any expenses. Thanks.

Some how I probably will not qualify for the money anyway. I would prefer to cut the unnecessary spending as the President recommended. Trunp has the right idea.

FAKE NEWS lol... see McConnell didn't block Senate Democrats' move to pass $2,000 coronavirus checks.

what actually happened is: Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) has blocked an attempt by Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) to force a unanimous consent vote

its still on the table

What is the significance of the unanimous consent vote?

What a f*cking joke. The Democrats engineer an emergency and you want to blame Trump for the deficit. Let's face it. The first stimulus was going to happen whether or not Trump signed the bill. You have Democrat Governors destroying the economy of their States so that they can blame Trump.

Yes. The Democrats engineered a worldwide conspiracy to make Trump look bad. All those other nations and dying people are in on it too. Along with China, one of our biggest adversaries.

I can’t believe people actually believe something this bat#### crazy.

Democrats didn't create the virus, but they most certainly engineered the response to it for political gains.

Meh in order to understand congress and the senate, we have to pretend we are spoiled children, whose parents (the people) allow them to be spoiled children.

Only then will you understand how we have gone this far in stupid.

I know you didn't ask me, but if I had a say, I would scrap the entire bill, and make them come up with a bill that would deal with the COVID impact on America and Americans.

A straight bill, with no pork.

900 billion dollars for the stability of America and Americans. When we are back on our feet we will look to far away lands, and will continue being the generous people we have always been.

Right now, charity has to start at home. Putting on bandaids, while they strip the coffers dry, is not a solution to our problems. It is luring us in while they lock the doors and set the building on fire.

Soooo, Mitch didn't approve it but wants to draw out a very simple response to perpetuity? I don't get it. It's either you approve it or not.

Recap of distribution of first round of stimulus checks in 2020. The IRS said it has issued about 160 million stimulus checks.

Source: https:www.aarp.org...:~:text%3DRecap%2520of%2520distribution%2520of%2520first,i mpact%2520payments%2520to%2520eligible%2520Americans.&ved=2ahUKEwiE-7WV_fPtAhX-GDQIHcg-D7EQFjABegQIBRAE&usg=AOvVaw3FgzP3-tidALVEFISyytqn

So if I'm doing my math right:

160,000,000 x 600 = 96,000,000,000

160,000,000 x 2000 = 320,000,000,000

At $600 economic impact payment per 160 million people who got the first round payment according to the IRS would be less than 1/10th the funds in the almost 1 trillion dollar covid relief bill going to individuals. "This does not count any funding for small businesses. We will get to those in a bit"

Now at $2,000 eip per 160 million individuals it becomes a little less than 1/3 of the funds in the bill.

Why not skip all the pork and worry only about individuals and funding ppp round 3?

You could do 4000 per 160 million individuals in eip payments for 640 billion and throw 350 billion or so into ppp funding for our roughly 80 million small businesses at over $4,300 a pop.

And if the scum in elected posistions want to milk the system, "like they always do," they can do like they did with the first two rounds of the ppp funds, and siphon a hundred mill here and there to their pals/families businesses.

As it stands even at 2000 eip and 350 billion new ppp funds it would still leave over 1/3 going to pork/graft, and in this day and age of political graft that 1/3 is being quite conservative. Probably more like 40% or more.

Would It be better than the guaranteed pork/graft of 75% in the bill trump eventually signed? Sure, but at the end of the day I would feel much more comfortable limiting the graft as much as possible.

Hence my above proposal. It still leaves room for what I would call an ugly but acceptable amount of governmental pork/graft. In the form of eip payments going to dead people or millionaires who do their books creatively. As well as ppp funding misdirection or favoritism.

Maybe 5-10% graft totaling about 5-10 billion in siphoned funds vs the hundreds of billions in either scenario we have been presented by our employees/overlords in government. Hmm let me think about it....ok I'm done I like my idea more.

No matter how it gets sliced another 1 trillion in debt/funny money isn't going to do much more for inflation than the last 10 trillion or so did, and we can't even collect enough in taxes to cover the interest on our national debt "forgeting entirely our 130 trillion in unfunded liabilities as well" so, untill we go full Zimbabwe or Venezuela and as long as the FED has got the printers on max and interest rates at 0 for all the fat cats, we might as well make sure as much of this as well as all future funds go to the individual tax payers.

After all it is us that is footing the bill. At least those of us with w2 incomes burdening under federal withholdings of wages mandated by the state.

Wall street fat cats and those with creative accountants pay 13-15% at best every quarter. While we have the feds hold 25% of our weekly wages aside till we get our pittance, "the amount they over-withheld from us" back at the end of every year like it is some sort of yearly bonus from uncle scam.

Untill they stop taking it we should demand as much back as we can possibly get away with.

That, or some/most of us just stop paying and starve the beast. Till then we are all just one mighty conquered meal for the beast to devour at its leisure like usual.

I was hoping Trump would have went nuclear on this... I mean he doesn't really have anything to lose at this point.

I mean hold a press conference and point blank say "I ain't signing this sh*t..."

"We are doing $10,000 per family at $1.2 trillion. Everything else can wait. I don't give a fudge about any country or anyone else other than the American people.

If McConnell, Pelosi, or anyone of any of these other political hacks have a problem, they can man up and come see me right now in front of the cameras and tell the American people directly what issue they have with my proposal..."
