Oops! I went and took a gander at that old Pentax just for the heck of it. It's actually a Honeywell Pentax (even older still), not an Ashai. I think I may have one of the old AE-1's with a gob of lenses kicking around here somewhere too. Oh well, as much as I hate to say it, film photography is pretty much dead. I once swore I would never go digital. Imagine that! Now you can't even hardly find anyplace to get film developed anymore.

BTW...out of curiosity what body and lenses are you using now?

We had a film lab in Nashville for the longest, and then when the government decided to shut everything down they decided to close up shop for good. Now, the only place I know of to get film developed is to either do it myself, or be able to trust sending my film through the mail to get developed who know where. I don't trust that.

For film I use mostly my F5. For digital I use a D7100.

Well, you can still get film developed at B&H in NY, and they do a good job (great job actually), but you have to send it out.

B&H is probably the premier photography place in the country anymore for everything photography and video.

Yeah, I think that's the one. I've bought some stuff from them before when I had to. I just don't like doing business online. I like giving my patronage to local businesses. I like the face to face interaction and building a solid relationship. It's easier to work deals out as well, and I've found that the customer service is solid more often than naught. Like if they don't have exactly what I need they'll cut me a deal on something similar that works, or point me somewhere else that I may be able to find it. And I like actually looking at what I'm about to spend money on and take it with me immediately. If it doesn't work I can always just go right nack and exchange it or get a refund. With online purchases, you buy it, wait a few days or weeks, get it, then if it doesn't work or it's not the right thing then I've had to argue why I want to send it back. Send it back. Wait even longer, then hope it's right when it gets back to me.

You won't have any of those issues with B&H. You can talk to a live person, even the same person, from purchase to purchase. They make deals. No questions asked return policy (for the most part). Their customer service is pretty awesome. They really made their name with it.

How I first got to know them was when I was over in Asia we had a guy who was a fantastic large format B&W photographer, and he took magnificent shots. Did all his developing and printing. He always needed all these exotic supplies, none of which you could find in Malaysia where we were. So, every time I'd come back stateside he'd give me a big list of all this stuff he needed me to bring back (because B&H doesn't ship overseas). I'd only be home for a few days, but I'd order from them and they'd have it to me before I left. I even got to know the guys. These guys must have thought I was a hell of a photographer because some of the stuff I was ordering were items most people, even hard-core photographers, had never even heard of. B&H was like the only place in the world you could get some of that stuff, and they always had it in stock too.

More than just a few times I had some explaining to do to Customs agents about what some of this stuff was, and some of I had no idea! One guy was gonna' taste some of the stuff like it was heroin or something (it sure looked like it, but it stunk to high heaven). I told him to go right ahead if that's what he wanted to do. He opted not to which was probably smart.

Anyway, B&H has been my go to for camera stuff ever since. Plus, they'll match pricing on about anything, so the prices are always good.

Alright, that's cool. I check them out soon. It's been a few years.

Still wish there was still a local place though.
