A high school senior of mixed race is suing a taxpayer-funded charter school in Nevada over the “coercive, ideological indoctrination” that is central to its Critical Race Theory-based curriculum that forces students to associate aspects of their identity with oppression.

In the lawsuit, Clark v. State Public Charter School Authority, filed Dec. 22 in federal court in Nevada, the young plaintiff William Clark and his mother Gabrielle Clark claim their First and Fourteenth Amendment rights were being violated. Students were allegedly told that by refusing to identify with an oppressive group, they were exercising their privilege or underscoring their role as an oppressor.

It is refreshing to see some pushback against the extreme leftist agenda that is embodied in many new curricula.

Considering that the lawsuit is being pursued by a student with a black mother, it will be harder to blithely dismiss as "white privilege."

Schools have tilted left for decades but in my opinion this and similar curricula cross the line by requiring students to identify themselves in specific ways, or including real-world political action as a class assignment, both of which happen at this school.

Schools should at least aspire to a modicum of objectivity and a tolerance of plural views. When ideological indoctrination is pursued to such an extreme extent, it is no different than teaching the bible as truth in the classroom -- which the left has fought tooth and nail (and rightly so, IMHO).

Yeah, but if you read what they were doing, it was required to admit to all kinds of things like race, gender, religion, sexual preference, etc., and then they would denigrate students or force them to denigrate themselves and admit how they were oppressive etc. as part of the curriculum.

I'd be up in arms if the school my kid belonged to did this. He has enough self-esteem issues without his school actively working to undermine him like that.

Oh, I just meant that even for a kid who is mixed race, there is plenty of room for him to run afoul of that type of thing. He may have been Christian for example or straight. Either of those is a chance for his teachers to berate him for being an oppressor group, and that's even without touching on the horrible male part.

I see. Well nobody is safe from the "purity spiral" of extreme identity politics.

If I had to guess, I would imagine somebody was upset he described himself as "mixed race" rather than "black." I imagine it went something like, "well if you wish to honor your white father by identifying as partly white, you will have to identify as an oppressor in part too, because all whiteness is automatically oppressive."

Very interesting and to this I say ‘hell yeah’.
It’s as if they want to breed a generation that uses the government as a therapist.. divulging any and all personal relations, preferences, and future ambitions to big brother.

If I was a teen growing up with this bull I probably would’ve burnt stuff down..
all the government needs to know is my last tax return and non-existent criminal history, my personal life isn’t any of their business.

They have underlying motives for all of this, and people need to let them know, that we the people, know.

Seeing Biden's pick for Sec Ed and what he instituted in Connecticut schools for curriculum, this lawsuit and its outcome could be very, very important for precedent.

Also, it was the African American mother who sued on his behalf.
