We have finally found an agreement. It was a long and winding road but we have got a good deal to show for it” European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen says "it is fair, it is a balanced deal and it is the right and responsible thing to do

BBC NEWS

Boris due to make a statement shortly in a press conference.

Forgive me for being a pessimist but The EU's tone tells me that Boris has most likely caved in like most of us Brexiteers guessed he would... But I am hopeful that Boris will shock us all and actually take back our sovereignty with no half measures.

Guess we are all about to find out

UPDATE AFTER BORIS CONFERENCE SPEECH: Must admit, I'm pretty pleased with Boris after all (subject to myself and others reading the deal in full) it appears that Mr Bluster has pulled it out of the bag after all. Great job Boris

So a 5 year transition period, instead of the 13 years the EU wanted..
I am not clear if that means we are still subject to EU laws throughout that 5 years, but it certainly sounds better than 13 years.

If the deal means we regain our sovereignty, and have once again the power to change those in control of our decision making through the democratic(voting)process, then Boris has done what he said he wanted.

If the EU are still able to make laws which we must follow through their legal process, and which we can not change no matter who we vote for in the UK,then Boris has not got what he said he wanted.

All I wanted as a brexit supporter was to be able to hold the people who make our laws accountable at the ballot box.
Something we were unable to do under the EU system.

It was never about the fishing/immigration for me,but about having a vote which could actually change things, and to have those laws made by our own government rather than the suits in Brussels.

Because, whatever anyone trys to tell you-without that power in our own hands,we were not living in a democracy.

The 5 year thing is just the quota on fish I believe.

We are independent from Jan 1st, no laws from the EU

Seems that way. Sounds good but let's wait for the detail.

No gloom and doom so far.

Thanks for the clarification.
If that is accurate,Boris gets a cautious "Well Done" from me.

The remainers will be fuming about this, they wanted us to fail so desperately or give away our sovereignty and instead we have regained our sovereignty and got a deal which is well in our favour.

Happy days and finally some good news this year.

Merry Xmas all, I'm having a beer 🍺

Happy days indeed. So much for all those on here banging on about TPTB and their Globalist plan.

We have our sovereignty back.

Happy Christmas! I'll join you in raising a glass or three.

As far I can see from the videos of Boris, we still have to ‘abide’ by the EU rules, so that means because of the human rights EU laws, we still can’t deport terrorist instigators, and criminals that have come here for a cushy life......which I why I voted out......your taxes will still be paying for everything that happens to them whilst in the U.K., from lawyers to case workers to the tv and PS4 in their prison cell.....

I'll hold fire until the bones have been picked out of this deal and we know what we have agreed to , the deal is subject to both the agreement of Parliament and the EU member States so it'll be interesting to see the response of Macron to the deal.

I fully believe the backup of trucks at Dover is more about a shot across our bows than COVID , I hope his shot didn't influence Johnson.

I'm hopeful but not convinced.

Edit.

Farage seems happy.

The deal is not perfect but it is a big moment.

This victory is a tribute to the ordinary men and women who stood up against the Westminster establishment — and won.

There is no going back.

Parliament will be recalled to vote on the deal on December 30th.

We still abide by international and national laws.

Therefore there'll be no extraditions or refusal of refugee status if the individuals can be assumed to be at risk.

This applies to prosecutions we would deem severe, unjust or barbaric. So terrorists aren't going anywhere since we cannot guarantee they'd receive a fair trial or humane treatment.

I'm fairly sure our extradition process is based on dual law, as in they could be prosecuted in either nation on similar laws with similar punishments.

I am glad to hear that they got it done. But I do not trust the EU, they will use any trick in the book to sabatoge the UK. I think anything they did has loopholes in it that benefit the EU

You're wrong.

The Trade Deal Agreed States

The Downing Street spokesperson said, however, that the agreement would guarantee that the UK was “no longer in the lunar pull of the EU, we are not bound by EU rules, there is no role for the European court of justice and all of our key red lines about returning sovereignty have been achieved.”

It was that court which was stopping The UK from deporting terrorists previously.
