Any legit solution has to go there. It is in certain people's interest that we don't go there and they want to keep it that way. It is the same for racial issues.

If food stamps worked there were be very little hunger in our country. There is a disconnect somewhere.

The disconnect is that it is in some people's interest to NOT solve the problem. The problem needs to be maintained or even to be made worse in their opinion.

No. It just invites more government control into our society and all our government has done so far is reduce freedoms, destroy small businesses, and make our lives miserable in every way it can.

We had a thriving food culture in this country up until the lockdown happened and now they want centralized control over our food infrastructure?

There is a swath of conspiracies about Codex Alimentarius and using food to control the population. The virus is not a threat but just an excuse for the lockdown and control measures. The government will likely get it's food czar and this is all according to plan to ensure the USA and all countries suffer mass starvation and bread lines to make everyone subservient to Big Brother.

In what way?

I wonder if we need a better food infrastructure system.

For example, I think of the farmers pouring milk out or all the vegetables that were left rotting.
If there were a system that food could be saved at no cost to the farmers/growers etc.

Yes I know people are for less government, however waste is waste and if we could do something
to feed people why wouldn't we?

That waste happens because they were required to do that according to FDA regulations. The government caused the waste.

Do you think farmers enjoy destroying their own livlihoods?

There is so much air in your head I'm surprised you don't lift off the ground.

I'm President of a small neighborhood social club. We have a group of older people who come in the early afternoon. They have a beer or a glass of wine and talk or play cards. We have a couple of nurses that come in around the same time, so they give them a look over and we usually get a good meal into them. That was before COVID. When we were shut down we would get together on Sunday and cook meals that we would deliver. Well we had a Karen turn us in for being in the club. When the Local Government investigated there was no problem except for one person. She was the local senior citizens representative. She wanted to know why these people were not registered with her office. I asked why and was told "We get State and Federal money for them!"

Ignorance must be bliss. How fun it is to just hurl insults without realizing the depth of some of these problems.

IS this the Government or FDA regulations????

Many farmers say they have donated part of the surplus to food banks and Meals on Wheels programs, which have been overwhelmed with demand. But there is only so much perishable food that charities with limited numbers of refrigerators and volunteers can absorb

But eventually the plant ran out of storage.....

But there are logistical obstacles that prevent dairy products from being shifted neatly from food service customers to retailers

www.nytimes.com...

To me all the things above are logistics and storage.

Wonderful. We have far too much gov't as it stands. Feels like Obama czars 2.0. They'll probably choose a Monsanto (Bayer) VP.

Chef José Andrés pushing Biden for creation of a food czar

WASHINGTON — Restaurateur and activist José Andrés is calling for the incoming Biden administration to create a new cabinet position to address the growing food and hunger needs of the country as coronavirus cases steadily increase into the holiday season

I'm so conflicted by this issue.
On one hand we waste so much food in our great nation, not a single soul should go hungry.
On the other hand how has welfare/social services worked out so far? To see multi-generational families rely on a broken
system isn't helping anyone.

The one good thing that I saw in the store last year was that they were allowing food Seed purchases on WIC or EBT. I think this is the right
direction.

Do we really need a Food Czar?

We already have one. It’s called the secretary of agriculture.

It is a shame that you are one of the few that gets it. No disrespect to you Annee. In fact the exact opposite. I know families, where there kids get the free breakfast and lunch at school and then there is a program where a backpack of food is sent home on weekends. In the meantime the family is collecting Welfare and EBT, but, all that the kids get are the breakfasts, lunches and what's in the backpack. The rest is used for other things. The parents actually get a shopping list, got to the store, buy the food and then sell it to the person who gave them the list.

Yes, the extreme and nefarious get the most attention.

But, I’d say the majority of parents are thankful that they can feed their children.

“The silent majority”

And it's the extreme and the nefarious in whose name things like this are proposed because it's mostly their children who need food, but something like this won't feed them any more than the programs we already have do.

I can’t predict the future.

I can’t say it will work or not.

I’m not a fan of “it’s always been this way”.

New ideas need to be considered.

Appointing another bureaucrat isn't a new idea though. It's the default response every time something is wrong.

"Hey! Give the government more power ..." It's like the factory leftist default. Notice how the problem is either always there or only creates new ones? At some point, you'd figure this was by design.

How many times are people going to tell you that the children who starve the worst in this country aren't doing it because the means do not exist to get them food, but because they have horrible guardians who simply do not feed them? Either the parents are exploiting the programs or flat out don't care, but either way, it's a failure of the guardianship, not the supply.

No government "Food Czar" is going to fix that.

It's like sending mountains of aid to third world countries and continuing to wonder why *they* starve when it's their corrupt governments that take the food at the docks and keep it for their own cronies, denying it to the people who need it.

Get ready for a Monsanto plant and the num num GMO veggies. If we can’t vaccinate you against pregnancy, we will sterilise you through your food and devolve your genetics until your children suit our purposes. That is all. Lol, get ready you yanks. You will blaze the trail for us minion #ries.

Perhaps every human right not adequately covered under the US Constitution should have advocacy, as a nod towards governance not looking forward to the advent of the 1800's?

Don't be obtuse. Czars get replaced all the time by Socialists. Ask any Russian of a certain age. Do you want a Food Socialist Party, because that what you'll get, a Food Socialist Party.

My god it already started at school. "Do you have a piece of candy for everyone in the class? NO! Then nobody gets any candy". It's too late we've already been indoctrinated.

***REAL RANT BELOW. PLEASE READ AS IT"S IS IMPORTANT TO THIS ISSUE***

I already said my piece, "This we don't need!" This is a 1A issue, food is a freedom of expression. Sure we need it to survive, but after the basic necessities of nutrition are met, we should have the choice to choose where and how our food comes to us. By establishing a governmental office that controls this basic human right, we would be willingly handing over our rights as human beings. Our founding fathers would not stand for this level of governmental over reach, why should any of us sit down and allow this.

If the government has a direct say in how and where we get our food, then ask yourself this:

"What's to stop them from forcing you to destroying a garden you have in your yard, or burning a farmers field so as to limit supplies, or force us into eating human meat because "They" mandate it?"

This idea is beyond a hard no, it's at the point of a firey hell no. People have the right to think for themselves, but I demand that those same people actually think for them selves instead of just taking it up the crap-shoot. The basic right to choose what we eat can not, nor will not be infringed upon. We shouldn't even have to discuss this, this type of thing shouldn't even have to be brought up. This idea is wrong, disgusting, and it shows a contempt for the basic rights of all humans that just leaves me sickened.

We can't ####ing blink without government regulating it or telling us how.

There is no food shortage... will be a supply problem when truckers say piss on going into that city that defunded the police, minor supply issues right now because of the draconian lockdown.

will be a money problem considering all the people being forced to sit at home..

But there is plenty of food.

Another layer of red tape would literaly just be to pay back someone that they owed.
