Zodiac killer’s 340 cipher mystery code cracked 50 years after murder spree

Apologies if this was already popped up somewhere, but the Zodiac cypher was busted.

According to American cryptographer David Oranchak, who teamed up with a software engineer from Australia, Sam Blake, and a software engineer from Belgium, Jarl Van, this is what the full 340 cipher says:

“I HOPE YOU ARE HAVING LOTS OF FUN IN TRYING TO CATCH ME. THAT WASN’T ME ON THE TV SHOW WHICH BRINGS UP A POINT ABOUT ME. I AM NOT AFRAID OF THE GAS CHAMBER BECAUSE IT WILL SEND ME TO PARADICE ALL THE SOONER BECAUSE I NOW HAVE ENOUGH SLAVES TO WORK FOR ME WHERE EVERYONE ELSE HAS NOTHING WHEN THEY REACH THE PARADICE SO THEY ARE AFRAID OF DEATH. I AM NOT AFRAID BECAUSE I KNOW THAT MY NEW LIFE IS … LIFE WILL BE AN EASE ON IN PARADICE DEATH.”

It looks like he was taunting and also storing up souls to serve him in the afterlife with his kills.

I'll be honest -- I know more about Jack the Ripper myself, but I know this another one of the great cold cases in the world, so I'm putting this up for those who are interested in case no one had gotten around to posting it yet.

Did he not know how to spell paradise?

Obviously a demented POS. It would be nice for them to identify him through DNA. As far as I can remember, it was so long ago that records weren’t kept on this individual.

That's what I wondered, but they mentioned too that they're stilling working on the last line, so maybe they got that one character not quite right?

This should tell everyone something.

One of the biggest secret agencies in the world, a 3-letter agency" who command BILLIONS of dollars in taxpayer money every year, and agency called "No Such Agency"...takes "Fifty YEARS" to solve a puzzle!!

Yet these same guys claim to be able to see inside some terrorist's head, speaking in code, from 15,000 miles away when no one else in the agency even comes close to speaking the language, let alone solving their code, which is written in a foreign language, encrypted with no chance of deciphering, and suddenly we can decipher the code in seconds!! LOL!!

If y'all believe that, then you also believe they did OBL's DNA is "seconds".

I sense another movie being made, though I very much doubt will be as good as Zodiac.

Still, pretty haunting message if he was collecting souls.

What I find strange is how this guy managed to create a cypher which was created so long ago and yet wasn't cracked for so long even with powerful supercomputers. I kind of doubt this is the first time the cypher has been cracked, it seems more likely that investigators didn't want to release the deciphered text.

Zodiac was never caught and has either died or remains at large. Despite the misspellings (perhaps deliberate) he was a cryptological genius, and was thought to be a probable mathematics professor. Goes to show you intelligent people can be crack-brained lunatics with demented beliefs at the same time as they are highly skilled in another mental area.

His last letter he said they would never catch him and he would continue to kill, only from then on making it look like an accident each time. For all we know he is still doing it...

What about the “zodiac” part??

From just reading this post, I would not call this a breakthrough. Like other posts say, this was deciphered a while ago but is now being released.

I think that the constellations’ position in the sky is what this serial killer’s name is all about. Nobody looks up and they spend their time doing behavioral analysis. This guy killed by the stars (pretty sure that he is dead).

Also, an a-hole like this does not make spelling mistakes. It is another clue.

This is still a mystery as to the events. And it needs to be solved. And I like that there has been movement but there is more to come!

Even with all the computing power available you have to have some idea of how the cypher is written, could be quite a simple one once you know where to start.

By now the killer(s) would probably be in their 70s and may of already died but you'd expect that they would of had some sort of deadman letter drop so they could brag from beyond the grave.

Seems like a pretty bland statement to make such an effort to hide.

Either they know more and are just feeding us what they think we can handle

Or there is some code built into what was revealed. Hence there is some significance for spelling paradise with a C instead of an S.

The L.I.S.K. is another killer that may not be identified anytime soon. Probably a cop. That one liked to dismember his female victims and put them in burlap sacks to slowly decompose in the high bush by the ocean in Long Island. He once went to Times Square with a victims cell phone and called her sister. Twisted psycho. Either he is dead, incarcerated, taking a break or he moved.

He probably hid his name in several messages, wonder how many names can be pulled from this message?
