This should be fun.

From January 1st 2021 EU fishing vessels will be banned from fishing in U.K. Waters.

The French particularly take most of their catch ( around 60% ) from U.K. fishing grounds. But no more if a trade deal between The U.K. and E.U. is not agreed by Sunday 13th December.

I think there are going to be some E.U. fishing boats that won't be returning to their home ports if things get nasty.

Boris Johnson has put four Royal Navy patrol ships on standby to stop European fishing vessels if they encroach on British waters in the event of a no-deal Brexit in the latest escalation of tensions between the UK and the EU.

The move is the latest visible sign of preparations for the UK leaving the single market without a trade deal, after negotiations between the two sides failed to produce a breakthrough.

Only three weeks remain before the end of the transition period, at which point the UK automatically crashes out of the bloc without a trade deal

Sucks for the fishermen but the EU seems like they have tried hard to fleece the brits, seems like turn about is fair play post brexit.

You cant demand someone keep bending over without expecting some sort of payback and as usual it wont be the paper pushers that pay.

F the EU. That is all I have to say. Seems to me that the Germans and the French have just been thinking that they should have won a bunch of stupid wars without consequence.

What do the Dutch think? They seem reasonable! hahaha...

God love you Euros, but man you are a mess.

The UK are not saying that EU vessels cannot fish in UK waters. They just need to be registered and abide by the new rules and fishing limits.

While we hear a lot about the UK arrangements due to the bias obsession of the MSM, we don't hear about what the EU are proposing to do with reciprocal access to their waters. Presumably, UK trawlers impacted will have to register? If not, then why should we allow access?

The EU are shooting themselves in the foot. Refusing to negotiate a deal on fisheries which recognises UK sovereignty just means an imposed deal. It is as if they never wanted a deal. They just want confrontation.

But the EU are not stupid. I imagine the French will be agitated to start burning UK lorries, or some other action to make life difficult and divert attention from the EU complicity in all of this.

Fishing is only 0.03% of the UK´s BNP, but this is an important stand against the EU nonetheless. France have little fish themselves and fish in the UK, well not any longer it seems. Good for the UK, I´m cheering for them and their sovereignty.

I don’t know about anyone else but I really don’t care about fish...

Seems like an easy concession for the U.K to make to give the EU more access to the fish in return for betters terms in a trade deal.

Fish is not the main problem in reaching a trade deal.

The E.U. want to U.K. to still be answerable to The Europeam Court Of Justice and also tell us what amount of State Aid if any we can give to business.

Anyway, the fish stocks in U.K. Waters are being depleted mainly due to the Dutch and their factory ships and pulse fishing methods they use.

Britannia rules the waves , especially when they're our waves.

We should perhaps deploy HMS Queen Elizabeth there for "exercises"

Yeah you make good points and I know there are bigger sticking points than just the fish but I personally don’t care about fish...

It just sounds like such a small and stupid thing to be arguing about.

purse seines?

North Atlantic fishing has been a source of contention for centuries.
IIRC Chinses boats fish there too. they are notorious for ignoring other countries' regulations.

Blow each and everyone of them out of the water, and then send an invasion force to France for good measure. Restart the good old British Empire ...

I think that we need to be honest here. This isn't so much a fleecing as it is a warming to other states not to leave.

The EU is demanding that the British give foreign vessels access to their territory to harvest their natural resources, which will then be taken back to the EU where they will be sold for a profit.

The EU is also demanding that the British lock their taxes and regulatory standards to match the EU's, so that Britain can't compete with them on an open market. And if the British want to diverge from the European model the court that gets to decide if they are allowed to is based in EU. Rather than a neutral external body.

In so many words, Britain will remain in 90% of the EU but will lose its veto and voting rates.

This isn't Brexit, it's being a tribute kingdom.

If the French want British fish then their fishermen should register in British ports, pay British taxes and land their catches in Britain so that they can be exported to France like any other agricultural good. Or they could simply go to a British fish market and buy the fish that the British catch.

And the EU should accept Britain as an economic rival, with it's own agenda and own way of doing things.

That's not actually correct. The UK has agreed domestic laws around access to the UK's fisheries. This includes registering foreign vessels to fish in UK waters, where the rules will be decided by the UK, or negotiated should the EU want to get serious and take a seat at the table. The UK Fisheries law - now in place is based around sustainability and determines...

- The amount to be fished in UK waters using scientific methods, not political haggling (as in the EU’s divisive Common Fisheries Policy, where overfishing is the name of the game and the word “sustainability” nowhere to be seen)
- The proportion available for foreign vessels based on an allocation which may change each year, with the automatic right of European vessels to exploit UK waters removed (boo hoo, sad face). Come on, get a licence to fish – it’s not that hard.
- Where fishing is allowed as the UK will increase marine "no fish" zones to protect the marine environment and conserve fisheries (something the EU ignored)
- The fishing methods, so that destructive fishing practices are stopped
- The protection of sensitive marine species, such as dolphins.
- That foreign trawlers must not exploit their workforce, which is what happens on some EU boats who use and abuse cheap foreign labour.

Where’s the EU’s reciprocal access to EU waters? Not heard much on that have we?

Restart the Empire?

The British are fed up with the whole idea of having an Empire, it's been nothing but trouble to them for the last 100 years. Just look at the mess of Northern Ireland. If you were to put it to a vote the British people stand a good chance of ditching the Norther Irish and telling them that they're being cut off like a junkie son who won't get clean.

From the British perspective, the empire has become a stick that people can beat it with, a lot of people have an extremely poor understanding of history and when they think of the British empire what they're actually thinking of is slavery in America. They don't distinguish between the two situations and presume that the empire was all whips and chains and people with dark skins being forced to labor for people with light skins. As seen during the recent divisive political attacks from groups like BLM who either can't or won't distinguish between the civil rights situation in the two countries.
