Back at the end of October I got the shocking news a good friend of mine and his wife had been killed. It was very abrupt and I had exactly zero details. It was so shocking in fact, I didn't even believe it was real. A few weeks later I learned it was in a car accident, but again no one had any details. There were no news stories, nothing, just zero information.

Today I learned the details, and they are horrible and tragic beyond description. My good friend and his wife were driving in their SUV towing an enclosed trailer on the interstate when they came upon a construction zone (3 lanes down to 1). The slowed down, and to make a long story short, they were rear-ended by a tractor trailer which did not slow down and plowed through several vehicles after being impacted by another semi behind him. The wife was killed on impact, but my dear friend was not. Their SUV erupted into flames and my good friend was burned alive inside the vehicle while firefighters and police tried to extract him and extinguish the flames.

Thirteen children and grandkids have been left behind.

The driver of the semi has been charged with two counts of vehicular homicide.

Please say a prayer, or a nice wish, for my good friend. He was beyond a great guy who would give a stranger the shirt off his back.

OMG! Of all the ways to go, being burned alive is the one that terrifies me the most. I've had nightmares about fire since I was very young.

I can't even imagine.

I'm so sorry about your loss, and there are no words.

So sorry to hear of your loss, friend. I lost the 1st girl I loved from an auto accident. I read up on after-life/near-death experiences quite often to provide comfort of what might be on the other side. Hang in there man.

It was strange in a way. Somehow, in my subconscious mind, in the complete vacuum of information, I had constructed this narrative in my mind which said it was just some twisted rumor and the names must have been wrong. It just couldn't be true.

Today, when I read the actual reports, I knew there was no longer any mistake.

The real tear jerker here is he had just retired late last year after 30 years of faithful service. He was greatly looking forward to enjoy enjoying his retirement with all of his children and grandchildren. He got 6 months, and POOF!

Not to dismiss this tragedy, but I rolled my vehicle at the end of October, 4 times, upside down. Was wintery mix coming down as I was going around an on ramp. Had to speed up at the top because some asshole was coming up behind me at 80-90 mph.

When the overpass turned back into pavement, I lost traction and started dovetailing.

People need to slow down, pay attention. Driving has become too reckless and people just don't care anymore.

As I crawled out of the car back seat door, I looked at the cop as I heard another car start spinning over up the hill above me, right where I came off.

Looked at him and asked what they're doing about this. About 8 officers, all looking around sheepishly and shrugging their shoulders.
