We have two dogs. One of them is an ACD, Cisco, and the other is an Australian Shepard, Rhodie.

The Australian Shepard loves to be outside. In fact, I think he's got part Siberian Husky in him because he'll go find the biggest snow bank and lay in it, and when the snow melts, he'll find a shady spot to go lay in the snow. Anyway, we let him out in the morning and he stands guard outside (he's very protective).

At 9:00 to 9:15 every morning, like clockwork, he'll suddenly get up and run around the house like he sees an intruder. The other day I decided to go see what he was doing. He runs around behind the house down to the lower corrals where we keep the bulls and steers, charges up to the corrals, stops and barks. Just one bark... Then he looks around, and casually walks off.

Every morning he does the same exact thing, at the same exact time. I've got no idea what's going on in that dog brain of his, but it's obviously very important business in his mind!

This morning I was sitting in the office watching him out front. He was sitting on the driveway, at attention and on patrol as usual. Suddenly, he jumps up like he just looked at his dog watch and realized he was late for a very important appointment. It was 9:16. He runs around the back, runs down to the corrals, low crawls (how Australian's do) and... But this time I showed the wife what he was doing. She didn't believe me when I told her this. Well, she does now!

My dog is a nut!

I love dogs. My dogs are nuts also. The house wouldn't be the same without them though. God bless them.

Nope. Aussie. You should see the fauna go berko in the morning down here. He’s a good boy. Tad hyper vigilant, but his discipline! Clearing patrol after a LONG stand to lol.
Ps. Dogs a nutter. But sounds like he is YOUR nutter. Congrats, just don’t back him into a corner.

Wasn't this the one that was letting the cattle out? Seem to remember you trying to figure who was letting the cows or horses out.

My 2 weims have that early A.M. bird patrol and coffee break on the back deck, then the 5:30pm Wild Wide World of Sports wrestling in the living room to be reconvened on the back deck for deer patrol.

Clockwork

Ahhh. Poor feller is probably confused. Here, at 0900, we get the daily hoop snake and drop bear raids. He’s just protecting his tucker

Who bites first when you forget the annual day of worship? I shouldn’t laugh, a problem shared is a problem halved.

If Rhodie could talk, I bet he'd explain his actions to you and you'd be deeply impressed - even thankful.

Sometimes dogs and horses are smarter an' more perceptive 'n people in some ways.

Dude. I’m glad you have a bit of Aussie companionship racing around the joint. Play him some bushwackers and the city slickers.
Fine Australian music.

I had a mutt. But xanadu looked like this
took her in as She was abandoned.

She would herd me and the goat. She particularly didn't like the goat ramming the above ground pool we had.

My mom let me keep xanadu so long as we got rid of the goat.

All my dogs knew my schedule, and they made me learn theirs.

Thank you for that story! Sounds like Rhodie is highly intelligent and a character and a perfect family protector. ❤️ I’m loving him! Tell us about Cisco now!

Dogs are such a gift. I like them better than 99% of people. I love every dog. If you’re not a dog person, we aren’t going to be close because I do NOT get you.

Three weeks ago I put down my Main Man of 15 years, my perfect little affenpinscher. He had kidney disease- discovered it two months ago. We did our best (the vet and me) to give him a peaceful glide to doggy heaven for the last two months. Making that final decision was the hardest thing I’ve had to do, and I’ve had to do some gut wrenching things in my 45 years. It was peaceful though- the vet and vet tech were wonderful (I held him in my arms). I’m still bawling several times a day on a daily basis. Bawling right now.

I’ll selfishly commandeer your thread right now to tell you about our thing, me and my main man. His first owners had him for a year and realized they needed to do the right thing and get a new home for him, because they were gone about 12 hours a day. I went to meet him, and he greeted me at the door and as soon as I sat down, he jumped up into my lap. His owners (young wife and hubby) were shocked and said, “He NEVER does that.” I fell in love with him. They wanted to take a few days to consider if I was the right one for him and vice versa. I spent the next two days feeling like when you fall in love- I couldn’t stop thinking about this scrappy little dog! My heart would beat faster when I thought about him, which was pretty much every minute. They called me two days later and said come get your dog- he is clearly yours because he has been sitting at the door waiting for someone since you left, and he doesn’t ever do that.

When I went to get him, he was at the door waiting for me, and when I bent down to pet him, he jumped up into my arms, ready to go! It felt like we had known each other before. He spent the next 15 years literally at my side every moment save for when I was at work. He appointed himself my 24/7 bodyguard. He LOVED looking out for me. Oh my gosh, I miss him so much. Best “man” I’ve ever been with. 😂 My other dog, a black and tan griffy, misses him too and isn’t herself yet. She is still sleeping in his spot on the bed next to me instead of against my ass like she used to; her assertive little self has traded places with a timid girl, which is NOT like her. 😢 I know she will come back, like she did after our/her other griffy died suddenly in February. But it’s hard to see her sad.

Thanks for letting me make it all about me for a minute (as if you had a choice). Please tell us a Cisco story too! How do they get along? Are they buddies? Are their personalities totally different?

I LOVE Australian Shepherds, but they are too smart and would have me working for them inside of a day.

Oh cool! I forgot to mention in my telling about my main man- his birthday was listed as March 8, which is mine. His previous owners had found him as a puppy, trotting along the highway (!), and so their vet had to approximate his birthday. When I discovered the date on his records they gave me, it was yet another sign we were meant for each other.

So, does your Yorkie really belong to you or your wife?

To us, but he's my "son". When 16 yr old schnoodle died in our arms...he came along 13 wks.

Junior (and his evil twin Little Chief Crooked Feather) are now 15 months...and...I'm screwed....!
