Some clarification on the status of this website would be nice.

Earlier this year, the brass at ATS dropped a major bombshell on everyone. It sounded like the writing was on the wall and the death of ATS was inevitable. I could be wrong but as I understood it the efforts from several users to buy ATS out and keep the lights on failed for whatever reason.

But we haven’t seen or heard anything in several months. The elections are basically over, the year is almost over. Maybe COVID and the elections generated enough ad revenue to keep the lights on a little longer? Or have Skeptic Overlord and company already bailed out and pulled their chutes before the crash landing, leaving the shop behind to crash and burn?

The conspiracy world isn’t what I wish it was. Awhile back I accepted the fact that politics ruled the roost for the time being. EVEN THOUGH THE GOVERNMENT HAS BASICALLY ADMITTED TO HAVING CRAFT NOT OF THIS WORLD AND IT BARELY STAYED RELEVANT ON ATS. But whatever, it is what it is. If ATS is gonna shut its doors and lock up like most of the user generated sites out there, I’d like to know if and when so I can start exploring alternative sites to get my fix with.

You creepy bastards keep my perspective fresh on the world. Whether I agree or disagree with your views, I appreciate dissenting thoughts from my own. It keeps from getting complacent on my views and thoughts. It’s tough to find such a wide array of opinions anymore.

So what gives ATS? What’s the dealio?

I agree, though I don’t blame site ownership or the mods. Unfortunately free thought doesn’t work well online where there is no real consequence for your actions. You get banned, create a new account. You wanna be a racist arse, you can be a racist arse. Things you wouldn’t dare say in public are allowed to thrive in user generated platforms. It’s hard to fault companies who don’t want their names tied to the dark side of the internet words and behaviors via advertisements.

Not sure when it happened, maybe around 2005 or 2006 when 9-11 really started to be questioned and Americans were still hurt by its effects? Maybe it was just as the world started being more connected and global views are just too vast to be discussed freely and without creating divide and dissent?

I disagree.
The site has been neglected by ownership for years. I've ran enough businesses to know that you can't just cash the checks.
The code is broken and the interface has been in need of upgrade for a long time.

How about a mobil app?

Site traffic generates add revenue so you need to get people to join and return.

Owner gets sidetracked with projects and ATS hasn’t been important to him for a LONG time. I’m amazed it’s still up.

Politics turned this site into a horrible place. It’s not interesting anymore. The old conspiracies have been soundly debunked. The good users have all left.

What’s the latest? Trump stuff and some idiots planting crappy monoliths?

Nobody who could afford to buy the site would be dumb enough to. There’s not any revenue. Nobody wants to sell ads on a site that’s full of whack job political commentators. Users and a complete lack of interest from the owners killed ATS.

It’s over.

I know someone who wants to buy it and divest it of the politics but they aren't willing to pay much for it as they feel the site isn't worth what was being discussed in some of the other threads.

I understand negotiations and haggling with a price, but surely they’d take “something” over nothing.


ETA: I guess there might be things about the value of the website that I know nothing of. So I don’t want to sound presumptuous.

Owner is a fed anyway his handle at one time was Skeptic overlord don’t know if it still is! It’s probably no longer profitable to gatekeep conspiracies for normies!

He did it to himself by blocking some conspiracies and when that happened people ran to reddit and once reddit started in with their censorship they moved to the Chan’s.

People want freedom of speech and expression it’s inherently built into the conspiracy community! Ats has broken that only rule for far to long. This place used to be more but only when republicans are in office do they allow conspiracies. I was here during the Obama years this place actively shutdown conspiracies that happened under Obama’s watch!

Exactly...

As far as IRL estate.....the domain isn't worth much....keywords aren't there for one thing....

As far as the Business Model.....I don't see any.....other than advertising....which doesn't cut it, unless you have the traffic and desirable content.....which ATS doesn't....

I'd like to see the forum converted to something like Simple Machines.

I'd archive the politics and resurrect the original content, opening it up for legitimate current discussion.

I'm not a computer nerd, but there should be a way to also archive any new political threads that arise. They would be read-only, restricted to the first post with no way to reply, and confined to a dedicated sub-forum.

IMHO, they should be buried.
