Ever since I was just a boy, and all throughout my adult life, I have heard people talk about various issues which were going to result in the destruction of the republic of the United States of America. Many of these issues over the years were serious issues and many of them meant a great deal to me personally. But deep down in my heart of hearts I never really, honestly, believed that I could wake up one day and the United States of America as we have known it would be gone forever.

I always believed that the checks and balances built into this form of a democratic republic would prevail, that justice would be served and the United States would always remain that which much of the rest of the free world aspired to be like.

Earlier today I was reading a thread here on ATS and one post in particular struck me. I don’t know why this particular post was so thought provoking to me, but it was. That post can be found Here

It wasn’t the exact words of the post which hit me like a brick, but more the undercurrent of apathy and despair on the part of the American public. Are we past the point of no return??? Are we past the point where we can ever regain control of our government, the corruption, special interest, the media and propaganda? And, have we as a people, “The People”, lost the fortitude to do what it takes to set things right, whatever those measures might be? One thing is certain, the path we are currently on is not one which makes America great, or builds back better, or restores the soul of the nation, or changes anything we can believe in. No, the path we are on somehow feels much different, like the road to destruction of this once great nation.

This isn’t about Biden, or Trump, or any political figure or party for that matter. What this is about is the larger picture of the future of this country as a whole in the World landscape. Has corporate greed and globalism corrupted the core of this nation (among others) to the point where it, rather than the people, controls the destiny of not only this country, but every country on planet Earth?

For me personally it doesn’t really matter, whatever happens will happen, and I know what side I will be on until the end. But I am only one person, a single dot in a sky filled with billions of stars. What I feel and do doesn’t matter. What does matter is the idea, the foundation of this country, and it matters not so much to me as it matters to future generations.

As I sit here and types these words, right now, I can actually picture waking up tomorrow, or in the not too distant future, and having the news tell me I no longer live in what used to be called the USA. To me that will be a rally cry, and rest assured I WILL fight, but again, I am old and insignificant. I wonder if those around me will be fighting with me or against me. I honestly do wonder. And, I will likely lose that fight, and when that happens it won’t matter anymore for me. Nothing will.

I never thought I would ever feel this way.

My mind is blown.

I feel that yes, with the current Democrats in power, the USA is past the point of no return. There was a small delay with the Trump presidency, whether it was 4 years or 8 years, but their path of corruption and destruction is set.

People can put up with a lot of nonsense. I would hazard to say things have the potential to decline much, much further to the point where 2020 seems like the nostalgic good old days.

Argentina used to be the 4th most wealthy nation on earth in the 1920s. It was considered advanced and "first world." It's been a long slow decline over the last century and people just basically shrugged and put up with it.

When the swap is the government of “appointed” persons that maintain their positions for decades, with never a chance of voting them out. The deep state is very real.

The destruction lies in the apathy of the voters. When the US started on it's journey it was governed by elected representatives. The operative word there "representatives". When first voting occurred people voted for someone in their communities to represent them in government therefore knowing and fighting for the thoughts an troubles of HIS people.
Thing changed when outside, rich people were allowed to represent communities, not caring for the people or their area but primarily to "The Party".
It could be reversed but I doubt it as the privileged class is so entrenched in the political spectrum.

We could be the first generation of Americans too weak and scared to stand up for freedom. It’s a scary thought indeed.

All unions suck. Soviet, European, American. This nostalgy needs to go. If you cant fix it, smash it and try making something better from the pieces. Something based on liberty for instance 😛

Well....the US is just an experiment. Maybe that experiment is ending.

I swore an oath to preserve, protect, defend the US Constitution.

There was never an "end date" to that oath.

Figure I'll do whatever I can to fulfill that oath until I go room temp.

What if it involves chasing after people?

I don't know. I really don't.

I used to say I'd fight like anything ... but I have a 10-year-old to protect. How do I balance that out? Sure I should fight for his future, but I should fight for his future, and if I go, who looks after him?

Yes, there are two of us, but I'm speaking for both.

Yes, I think we are, and believe have been on the slow path to culmination for 19 years. It stuck out to me around 16-17 years ago or so, when my very-obviously-Indian boss was point blank called a "worthless money-grubbing sand 'n-word'" by a piece of crap who couldn't read the sign, "Sorry, booked!" out front.

Butthole dropped not just the N-bomb, but a nasty comment all together, because we didn't have any rooms left to rent during Daytona (people went clear across the state to Tampa & regions nearby for rooms when everything was booked past Orlando) He let it roll off his shoulders like it was nothing but I DID know him well enough to know he was hurt by the remark. When I pressed him further, he just shrugged and said, "I've been here 15 years now. People used to treat everyone well, but after 9/11...people only care about the people that look like them now."

It was pretty poignant -- even he saw us reverting to our base nature of tribalism, plain as day.

Edit: Got ahead of myself here and punched "post" too soon. I think that as far as 9/11 being THE major catastrophe to manipulate people with goes, that it did it's job on that manipulation front. Being wrapped up in ourselves and our own circles is one thing, everyone does it. Then the Jonses got more expensive to keep up with, people were pressured into this asinine dual working spouses/parents household and the subsequent kids were shuffled around from daycare to whoever afterward, so mom and dad could work later for their pennies.

We can pick it apart til pigs sprout wings and fly, but honestly? We did it to ourselves. The "easy life" was threatened with a couple of airplanes, we gobbled the bait, and squared off against the "funny looking folk" (foreigners/darker skins) all too easily. We don't realize it, but we're still squared off, but the opponent has changed is all. We never got out of the mindset, just swapped one boogieman group for another.

I think if we can get term limits imposed on DC, we’ll make some headway.

I’ve seen it posted around here and elsewhere over the years, but the president is a temporary employee of the country and thus, never truly gets the full picture of what’s going on behind the scenes. It’s usually when discussing UFO/aliens, but I think it applies to all reaches of the government/military.

We need every politician to be a temporary employee. Each year they’re in office, they’re plunging dirty fingers deeper and deeper into America’s soil and it’s citizens wallets. People have been raising hell about the police having no accountability while not even giving a damn about politician’s lack of accountability. This needs to end.

I think there will always be some kind of corruption in our government, but whatever we can do to minimize it, we needed to start doing years ago.

Every. Citizen. Must. Demand. Term. Limits.

Get rid of lobbyists first. Then there's no incentive to even become a politician.

What country before ever existed a century and half without a rebellion? And what country can preserve it’s liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants. It is it’s natural manure. - Thomas Jefferson

I hope that these times are not upon us. I hope that as Americans we can once again learn how to compromise, how to work together for our own common good.

You know who is more dangerous even than politicians, although they are a problem too? The permanent bureaucrats. There are too many running too much, writing too many rules that have force of law without being law.

They aren't elected and they are career.
