No it isn't. The first one in Utah was from a now dead artist (according to his agent) from New York. Removed by a Park Ranger who was getting annoyed with all the people turning up to see it and basically littering and pooing everywhere.

The Romania one was a clear hoax, something they like to do in rural Romania when bored. Usually on the internet but not exclusively. And it was also different to the first "monolith". The locals think that one was removed by local scrap metal dealers - something entirely plausible and likely if you have ever been to Romania.

Came here to post about the Californian one but you beat me too it.. Still a bit stumped as to the meaning of these things.. Rivets and bolts. I would guess aliens are out of the equation.

I was wondering could the monoliths be part of some kind of new product launching campaign, from one big corporation, probably from technology side . They would first set up those all over and later launch the product. Just a wild guess ..
