Sorry.

Well, that wasn't snarky at all.

I was half expecting you to say at least his roommate thought he had a support animal or something.

I’ve spent the last week in literal hell.

Literal.

Being roasted alive couldn’t hold a finger to what I’ve been going through. I started taking a supplement called Phenibut about a year and a half ago for work related anxiety. It was originally developed by the Russians in the 1960’s for the cosmonauts because it gives you a reduction of anxiety without effecting motor skills. For the first year it worked perfectly. Then about 6 months ago I started getting flashes of impending doom. Like something really bad was about to happen, even though my life was amazing and I had no reason to think that.

Fast forward to about 2 and a half weeks ago. I’m up in the mountains with my girlfriend. About our second day there I start getting all these weird dysphoric feelings. Ending in a panic attack while sitting in a restaurant. I’ve never had panic attacks or anything like that, so I was genuinely freaked out. At first they started a couple times a day, but over the next week they progressively got worse.

Then I stopped taking it.

So last Friday I woke up around 8 am with my head so dizzy I could barely walk. I had to hold on to the wall while walking to the bathroom. It kept getting progressively worse.

It was insane. Hallucinations, dysphoria so bad I couldn’t get out of bed and the most evil scenes and what felt like premonitions flashing in front of my face constantly. I didn’t sleep at all Friday night. I sat up in the living room of my 200 year old house talking to confederate soldiers that had been dead for almost 200 years.

About 6 am I thought I was having a heart attack and my girlfriend woke up and convinced me to let her drive me to the hospital. They admitted me, stabilized me on Valium and kept me overnight. Which was horrible. My roommate was withdrawing from alcohol and spent the entire time screaming in gibberish and whistling for a nonexistent dog. They discharged me the next morning, sent me home and today I found a doctor that actually listened to me and prescribed me the drugs I needed to get off of this satanic substance.

Thing is, I had no idea it could have these side effects. You can buy it at GNC, The Vitamin Shoppe. Hell, it’s in certain energy shots at gas stations. Everywhere. That’s how I started taking it. I’m all for drug legalization, including phenibut, but there should be warnings making people aware of the dangers of it if they choose to use it. It’s evil to market this to people without a warning or explanation of what you’re getting yourself into.

I’ve done a lot of substances, and I’ve never experienced such a prolonged psychedelic hell from anything. The withdrawal felt like your mind is being ripped apart piece by piece while terrible hallucinations swirl around you, taunting you. I’m reminded of the adrenachrome scene from Fear and Loathing Las Vegas, but more frightening. And more evil.

So the moral of the story is, stay the hell away from this drug. Part of me thinks it’s some kind of chemical warfare the Russians are supplying to unwitting Americans that just see it as a supplement like anything else.

Here’s some links that talk about it:

Please do not use this under any circumstances. It’s also present in many weight lifting stacks. It’s supposed to promote HGH and I did notice I bulked up through all the physical labor at my new job, but it isn’t worth it. Check your supplements and stacks for this if you lift.

The name is beta phenyl gamma aminobutyric acid. They may try to shorten the name on certain products but it will still look similar. It’s in a lot of things that it shouldn’t be otherwise. I’ve even seen it in some CBD formulations, notably the Hemp Bombs brand. Watch out for that too. The energy shots that have phenibut are called Sleepwalkers, though I’m sure there are more now.

So be careful. Unless you want to lose all touch with reality and sit up talking to dead people all night long. And I don’t mean that in a good way.

Be careful out there and research every thing you decide to put into your body.

I believe you. My ex wife lost her mind using Hydroxycut. I mean she lost freaking mind. It's no joke.

I never touched that stuff after a bad experience with it. I was actually thinking about it yesterday and how lucky I was to not get snared by it. I had read up on it prior to using it, and tried to be very cautious. But one slip was enough.

Glad you are ok.

Phenibut is not licenced for use in the European Union, Australia or the United States due to safety concerns.

How?

I expected a warning about vitamin supplements when I entered this thread, respect for sharing this with us. Wish you a fast recovery and well being. Meditation could help you sort your thoughts and fight the anxiety.

you will have no anxiety, no depression, within 18 days of jogging 45 minutes per day everyday.

Thansk for sharing the story....

From a medical aspects, the vast majority of these supplements, unless you have say a documented vitamin deficiency, are at best an expensive placebo, or can do significant harm and great care should be exersized

My apologies, take-away had arrived when I replied earlier so I missed that part skimming through.

Oil from a reputable lab will contain no nonsense, independent lab reports will be a available for viewing to confirm this (I'm sure you're aware, but for the benefit of others)

I won't make any recommendations, I don't want to push my luck,

All the best

Damn mate that sounds terrible.

I'm glad your back to normal.

I had a similar premonition type episode once while I was on vacation with my girlfriend, It was not drug induced I woke up out of a dead sleep in a hotel . Sat up in bed and had this horrible sense of terror and doom , It's like all the serotonin and Dopamine had switched off in my brain and I felt just this horrible evil inside of me . It felt like there was lead flowing through my veins , and I kept searching for relief or happiness but it was just gone and only terror remained .

This lasted for like 2 minutes , and I know that is not a long time but God it felt like an eternity it's as if I drifted off into Hell for a moment I woke my girlfriend up just out of desperation I needed some kind of relief . She grabbed my arm and I instantly started felling better she later told me my skin was ice cold when she touched me.

That next day she had a horrible wreck on a scooter , she ended up in the Hospital for the rest of our Vacation she was thankfully ok in the end but to this day I feel like I had some sort of premontion about the wreck.

I've read that L-Theanine is what you want for benzo withdrawal not other GABA agonists.
Not even the good stuff like Gotu Kola.
L-Theanine makes the GABA receptors sensitive again and overall great again.
It's what makes green tea smoother than coffee. It's used in nootropics for a reason

Who'd have thought that if you # up your brain chemistry it would # up your brain chemistry?
Me...
Seriously self medicating is always making your problems worse. No matter what the drug is.
The problem is you. It still is.

Not trying to be mean here, but you'll still have to face it, whatever caused the anxiety, or you'll just continue to make it worse.

I’ve seen kids on Reddit talking about using that stuff frequently. I’m glad I’m out of my “I want to try everything” phase.

That said, I had a similar experience with a different substance, kratom. I had heard about it for years on Internet forums but never saw any anywhere. It was heralded as this wonder plant that simultaneously gave you energy and lightened your mood. It’s been in use in Thailand for thousands of years, where they generally just chew on the leaves or make a tea from it. It’s basically a low-level opiate and responds to your opiate receptors.

2 years ago I’m in a smoke shop and see some on the wall. I excitedly bought a bag, after hearing about it for nearly a decade. Popped a few pills and within an hour I was feeling great! Not f*cked up, just a mild, comfy feeling and an elevated mood.

I start digging around on the internet for more info about different strains and uses, don’t see a word about negative side effects. It’s just a plant, right? I had been taking the kratom 3x a day during work and I became a powerhouse. Stopped drinking coffee, stopped smoking weed, this stuff was AWESOME. Then one night, about 2 months after I started taking it, I wake up with restless leg syndrome. Think nothing of it, take some kratom to settle me down a bit, RLS went away and I was back to sleep in 15 minutes.

As the months go on, I start getting cold chills, mood swings, days where I was just depressed to hell and back (lots of impending doom days). The only difference in my life was the kratom. I make a post on Reddit in the kratom sub and within minutes my thread is deleted by a mod. I ask why and I was told that due to fears of the FDA banning kratom, they don’t want to promote negative side effects on the sub. I was rather taken back, as I do not believe that kind of information should be restricted in any kind of way. Harm-reduction is a must when it comes to drugs, even if it’s just a plant.

Then I find a subreddit dedicated to quitting kratom and read through the horror stories. At this point, I was probably a year into using it. The withdrawals were so bad that I wouldn’t be able to get off the couch. Cold chills, cold sweats, depression, severe back pain, burning nerves, restless legs, nausea....the works.

Almost 20 years ago, I decided it’d be fun to eat methadone like candy for about 4 months. The withdrawals from that were NOTHING compared to kratom.

It took me another year before I finally got so sick of this plant dominating my life that I quit it. Spent a few days feeling like absolute garbage but played some mental trickery on myself to push through it. As of August 1st, I’ve been free from that crap. I still get some residual withdrawal symptoms. Occasionally I’ll get hit with that impending doom (could just be the stress of work) and sometimes I still get cold chills from out of no where.

It still blows my mind how this damn plant could have such a crazy effect. The effects it causes are NOTHING in comparison to the withdrawals that come along with it. Absolutely insane. While I’m not down with the government telling me what I can and can’t do, I do believe the producers of this stuff should be writing on the packages, “Hey, this sh*t is going to cause you a whole lot of hell in the future, use wisely.”

Glad ya made it through ordeal, man. It’s really crazy what a little chemistry change in the body can do to ya.

I know that green Tea sensitizes the cannabinoid receptors throughout the body to increase cannabinoids attaching to it. One of the chemicals in green tea in higher levels is L-Theanine. But I have not seen a direct relationship anywhere to the Gaba receptors. But just because I have not seen that evidence yet does not mean it is not real. There is L-Theanine in black tea too.

I like having a can of Arizona Green tea once in a while, it mellows me out quite well. Lots of sugar I suppose. I wonder if it would increase the buzz or medical benefits from cannabis

I think it's the caffeine that potentiates the high from THC. Not in a good way IMO but to each his own I guess. If you like the heart racing and you cant reach anxiety because of the built up tolerance or CBD or too much of an Indica strain... L-Theanine works as caffeine antagonist. Never heard of interaction of L-Theanine and Cb receptors but they are all connected in one big system so it's probably true.
Btw black tea is less rich in it. Green tea is better and Japanese Gyokuro has the highest amount but it's one of the most expensive teas in the world. There are also pills on the market. Many miligrams, a good deal.
And sugar lights up the brain with dopamine like speed on MRI. They say it's an addiction. It's the opposite of mellow IMO unless you have Parkinson's. 🙂
