But I have seen this 5 pointed star betewen a persons thumb and forefinger, and on a wrist. Might any one hear be able to tell me what this might be and indication of?
Any symboligist in the house!

This is from my web site...

THE MEANING OF THE PENTACLE

The Pentacle, the symbol of Witchcraft, represents an ancient concept that can be found in philosophical thought in both Eastern and Western culture. Although over 8,000 years old, the image of the pentagram is applicable in our modern world. The pentagram tells us that we have the ability to bring Spirit to earth; this applies to every area of practical day-to-day living, as well as spiritual thought. The ability of bringing Spirit to Earth is what makes us whole.

The origins of the pentagram go far back, to remotest historical antiquity. It has been venerated by many other civilizations. To the Jewish peoples, it symbolically designated the Pentateauch, the Five Books of Moses. It has survived under a variety of titles, such as "The Druid's Root" and "The Witches Star".To the followers of Pythagoras, it was called "The Pentalpha" being composed of five interlaced A's or Alphas. The Alpha being the first word of the alphabet, we can perhaps view it as showing forth unity in the midst of multiplicity. The individual is part of the Whole. It is the ruling of the higher mind over the lower elements of our being. It signals the awakening of cosmic consciousness and the beginnings of our own human psyche moving beyond the realms of physical form and the perceptions limited to the five senses. It allows the infinite possibilities that exist within the Universe and frees us to explore and to grow.

Traditionally, each of the five angles has been attributed to the five metaphysical elements of the ancients:

EARTH: (lower left hand corner) represents stability and physical endurance.

FIRE: (lower right hand corner) represents courage and daring.

WATER: (upper right hand corner) represents emotions and intuition.

AIR: (upper left hand corner) represents intelligence and the arts.

SPIRIT: (at the topmost point) represents the All and the Divine. The circle around the star represents the God-Goddess; it refracts and reflects all light, bringing to the wearer total intelligence, universal wisdom and protection. This becomes a graphic portrayal of Spirit ruling over the five elements. When the pentagram is placed within a circle, it's energy is focused and directed. The pentagram upright, to those of spiritual perception, represents the redemption of Spirit from matter by ruling over it.]

I know two or three people that have had the star tattooed between the thumb and forefinger... from what I understand, it's just popular right now. None of my aforementioned acquaintances are involved in any 'alternative' practices, not even Wicca; they just got the star because 'it looks cool'.

Yes, it is used by the Satanic Church. No the symbol is not evil, people who use it maybe.

at last count I think I had found 520 different meanings and associations
of the Penticle/ pentagram.

Including:
Venus both the planet and The Goddess. It is said that The Planet traces
a perfect pentagram in its 8 year cycle.

The pentagram is a perfect reflection of the Golden proportion.

It was the first symbol chossen for the modern olympics. Then abandoned
in favor of the 5 rings as more inclusive. They did however retain the half
cycle of Venus for the games.

It is also associated with the 5 wounds of Christ.
the 5 petal Rose
and many more.

I really need to learn how to post links in that cool red bold color...

Venus is the Planet the Mayans relate to as well. Many older cultures knew about the pentagram in the sky, and it rotates as well. Its like having a spirograph being played out for us.

Cool stuff that planet.

Wicca & Satanism

Very close belief structure. Take it for its meanings and not its text.

For example look at the beliefs not the hype.... All satanists are not evil and true satanist believe purely in the statements below.

The Nine Satanic Statements

from The Satanic Bible, ©1969

by Anton Szandor LaVey

[français]

1. Satan represents indulgence instead of abstinence!

2. Satan represents vital existence instead of spiritual pipe dreams!

3. Satan represents undefiled wisdom instead of hypocritical self-deceit!

4. Satan represents kindness to those who deserve it instead of love wasted on ingrates!

5. Satan represents vengeance instead of turning the other cheek!

6. Satan represents responsibility to the responsible instead of concern for psychic vampires!

7. Satan represents man as just another animal, sometimes better, more often worse than those that walk on all-fours, who, because of his “divine spiritual and intellectual development,” has become the most vicious animal of all!

8. Satan represents all of the so-called sins, as they all lead to physical, mental, or emotional gratification!

9. Satan has been the best friend the Church has ever had, as He has kept it in business all these years!

The examples that were posted by Lady V showed the Wickan star pointing up, and the Satanic one pointing down.
I will chose not to coment on what is or is not evil.

let me try to clarify for you. The symbol is not evil. how it is used can be.
as I recall the OES alsopoints a single point down and they are far from evil.
Some may be snobs but not evil.

A symbol can't be evil, sure it can be used for evil, but that doesn't make it evil.

A knife can be used to murder someone, but is the knife evil?

Symbols are used to communicate. A lot of time to relay a message or advertise. Christians do not empower symbols, though there are other belief systems that do.

In Christianity, the basic five pointed star was used to denote the Star of Bethlehem. I believe it was illustrated as such and simply became popular over the years. Commonly it's seen at Christ-mas as decoration.

It has a couple different shapes, but an early common one was:

Though I'm sure it looked a lot more like this:

Which is not to be confused with:
