I don't mind anchovies on my pizza. It has its place.

Have you ever tried it? It's an acquired taste. Try it again. Dare.

The old world is changing, but I can still stomach an anchovy pizza. Can you?

It has a smokiness and saltiness that'll knock your socks back to Kathmandu. Yowza!

It isn't some mysterious parable.

It's a memory of what was--strange goodness, a surprise. Hidden. In your face.

It's traditional in many parts of Southern Italy so I've been eating them since I was a kid. I prefer the imported ones that come in a jar. I also use them in sauces for additional umami flavor.

Sorry too salty for me. I like oysters on pizza for smokiness.

Sardines are to be partaken with chili flakes olive oil and superchilled berr.

I don't blame you at all. It's a toughy.

Oysters on a pizza--this is new to me...

Sardines. I do tinned sardines on crackers. Yum!

The saltiness is more of a problem when you eat them whole.
Mince them fine and spread them out. I like them better than blind robins.

That was my father's favorite pizza, and he was from northern Italy.

He used to have fun with that. He liked to ask the regular costumers at the restaurant if they like anchovies. Everybody's answer was a big "NO".

Then he answered with a single size anchovy pizza and made them try it.

You gad to see my dad's face. Usually the costumer answered with an empty plate.

More good food !

My Wife was brought up with an Italian Step-Father, so pizza without anchovies is unheard of!
Anchovie fritters are great too !

Sardines are great mashed with finely chopped onion and ketchup - on toast !

Cheers mate ...

I love a pizza with black olives and anchovies! But nobody else in my family does, sadly.

Also, so few places offer them. If I get one, usually has to be homemade

My son and I tried them at a local pizza place. For me, I'll eat them and they're OK, but I won't go out of my way for them. He, on the other hand, loves them.

Now here comes the part that makes most folks cringe ... big time.

His preferred pizza combo is anchovy and pineapple. I guess I can see it in the sense that the anchovy sort of amplifies the salty/smoky ham to play off the pineapple, but ... I'm not sure how the fishy side plays in there, and I'm not brave enough to find out.

Those are the 2 most controversial pizza toppings of all time.

Your son is a special soul, ketsuko.

I don't like anchovies at all, they taste like salted aged mackeral in their brine. I like salt cod and I like pickled herring and smoked fish, but those little rotted fish suck. I have never had a fish Taco, but I would bet I would like that, but not if it had anchovies on it.

They're typically battered and fried ocean fish like mahi or some sort of white fish.

I have two authentic Mexican places near me and they serve fish tacos. Their fish are fried without batter. I like them better that way.
