I agree, it's sad and makes me very afraid for our North American "democracy". This sets the standards for truth and journalism and if we as a people cant out our government for the political madness they are creating then we basically are no better then the communist countries we claim are so evil. I hope this man gets out. Journalism is dying and the knowledge of what's really going on in our reality and our society will die with it if we all let it.

Why is this posted in U.S. Political Madness ?

You don’t think that there is anything political going on? A person imprisoned for publishing information about US war crimes in Afghanistan- no political machinations around any of that, huh?

Surely Trump will pardon him...

He's pardoned lesser people for worse...

Besides he proclaimed his love for wiki when it had dirt on Clinton.. Right?

I think you need to understand the difference between legal and political.

This only becomes a political issue if Assange ever lands in The U.S. which is by no means certain. You may no realise it but U.S. political systems don't actually extend to The U.K.

At present Assange is dealing with a legal challenge. Assange has had no political involvement in The U.K.

You American's aren't that bright are you.

Sounds like dead man walking, unless there is quick intervention. Who wants to start the death poll?

I'm going with Oct. 10 for no particular reason.

It's easy to think that, because he's being held in prison and the proceedings are taking place in a courtroom.

But in fact your legal system, in this case, has been politicised.

Casual observation of the case, and in particular the manner in which Assange and his legal team have been treated, particularly by the judge, demonstrates a situation that is nothing short of a crucifixion of a political prisoner.

Well, apparently YOU aren’t bright enough to realize that you’re using the possessive when you should be using the plural. Americans.

Don’t #ck with an American’s superior intellect, sweetie.

They are probably putting something into his food or giving him a medicine that does that. Depending on genetics, some people get that way by eating too much vegetables if they lack enzymes to break them down properly. That would be the porphyrias.

What he posted is true though, there isn't any political inteference in extradition hearings. It's one of the only things we do right in the UK and have a suprisingly high rate of refusing higher profile more serious cases.

Requests have been denied for far more serious far higher profile events like the Arms to Iraq scandal - my Uncle was facing the death penalty in the US for building a supergun for Saddam that was meant to launch a nuke on Israel, the request was denied as it'd be impossible to get a fair trial in the US as it had played a large part in causing Gulf War 1.

It may not have been reported in the US but the trial has been discussing refusing extradition to the US with various witnesses saying the prosecution is politically motivated and exposing the plea bargains and silencing attempts the US has tried to do in recent months.

President Trump is behind the politically motivated prosecution of Julian Assange, who he said should receive the death penalty, his extradition trial was told today.
