I did hear this morning that Trump is going to announce his nominee this week, but later this week as soon as RBG's funeral is over. I kinda like that. It's a show of respect for Justice Ginsberg.

But on the other hand, seeing that the Senate is scheduled to go into recess October 9, that could turn into a problematic delay. I get the impression (and this may be purposely designed to give that impression) that Trump isn't worried about this. He's going to do his job, urge the Senate to do theirs, and if decorum demands a short delay, so be it.

Yeah, as long as he nominates this Friday or Saturday, it's up to the Senate to vote. They have plenty of time to confirm even if it is after the election. Trump did his part, that's all he can do. I'm not very concerned either way, I am confident he will be re-elected overwhelmingly.

Technically the Senate can call a vote immediately. There's no legal requirement for the circus hearings where they just try to destroy people's lives. Nominate, vote, repeat until nominee confirmed.

Maybe not directly related, but my issue is Conservatives can’t/don’t/won’t keep God out of politics.

“On a court that in recent years has chipped away at religious freedom, granting religious privilege to those who would use their faith to discriminate, to exclude or to deny equality, Justice Ginsburg’s voice on behalf of one of America’s most important founding principles – and the vulnerable people it protects – was stalwart and clear. She consistently joined the opinion most protective of the separation of religion and government in virtually every case during her long tenure. www.au.org...

It's actually rather telling when both sides can't agree on a Justice to interpet the Constitution.

It's partisan.

Our Justices are now partisan.

What would be so terrible about a justice that traditionally interpreted the Constitution?

I guess that's bad now.

We need "progressive" justices?

Like you said, President Trump says he will not name Ruth ginsburg's replacement until after her funeral.

Democrats may try to postpone Ruth Ginsburg's funeral for several weeks in order to prevent President Trump from naming her successor.

Who controls when the funeral will be?

Ruth was of the Jewish Faith , so Certain Events must Happen before Burial according to Her Own Personal Beliefs.....

" Time Between Death and Burial
As soon as possible after death, the Rabbi or funeral home should be contacted, so that the arrangements can begin. A speedy burial is extremely important.

It’s believed that this is one of the most important ways to honor the deceased.

Within 24-hours is preferred, if it’s possible.

They feel that it disrespects the dead to leave the body unburied.

Immediately after death a few rituals are performed .

It seems everyone on Trump's short list has already been vetted for a lower court confirmation only a few years ago. There's really not that much to vet, unless someone wants to claim that they failed to properly vet them before.

Not if it takes precedence over freedom from [religion].

Freedom of religion is freedom from religion. Who is forcing you to worship anyone or anything?

Seeing someone else worship in their own way is not harming you.

In your eyes, just having any religion at all takes precedence over freedom from which means you have a litmus test that excludes the vast majority of people in this country. In your eyes, it wouldn't matter if someone were Wiccan, Hindu, Muslim, or Christian ... they're religious and that's just too much for you.

Who controls when the funeral will be?

I would assume the family, with input from her peers obviously. Ginsberg was a hero to quite a few people, and I'm sure they would appreciate the chance to say goodbye.

On the other hand, as Zanti Misfit points out, Ginsberg was Jewish. It seems the Jewish faith requires as speedy a burial as possible. But I am hearing the funeral will be Friday or Saturday, almost a week after her death. Seems to me her admirers would be dishonoring her memory by disregarding her faith and expecting a long, drawn out process. Every day she remains unburied is an insult to her wishes from what I hear.

But what do I know?

I have no problem with that. Of course, I heard this morning that Pelosi wants to impeach the President (again!) to "prevent him from nominating a replacement."

That was on Fox and I'm sure there's some exaggeration going on, but the fact remains that impeaching a President has no effect on him being able to nominate a Supreme Court Justice. He is still President until such time as the Senate votes to remove him. Last time the impeachment contained no crimes; this time it would be an impeachment of a sitting President for fulfilling the Constitutional role of a sitting President.

Plus, I'm sure Trump already has his nominee chosen; he's waiting to announce out of decorum. If there's any actual action toward an impeachment vote, he could nominate his choice in the time it takes to tweet a tweet. In that case, I doubt anyone would think ill of him for jumping the gun... at least not anyone who doesn't already hate him for being Donald Trump.
