Now that we know how certain members of Congress interfered in the 2016 Presidential Election, and tried to cover it up after Donald Trump won, its prudent to begin "structuring" who gets what information related to 2020 election security measures, among other things.

The Trump administration has ended all election security briefings to Congress just weeks before Americans cast their ballots for president, raising concern among lawmakers about the public's right to know about foreign interference in the election.

The nation's top intelligence official, National Intelligence Director John Ratcliffe, told the Senate and House intelligence committees on Friday that the committees would only be receiving written updates about election security to help ensure the information β€œis not misunderstood nor politicized." The official said there are concerns about unauthorized disclosures of sensitive information following recent briefings on Capitol Hill.

In his letter to the committees, Ratcliffe wrote: β€œI believe this approach helps ensure, to the maximum extent possible, that the information ODNI provides the Congress in support of your oversight responsibilities on elections security, foreign malign influence, and election interference is not misunderstood nor politicized."

Democrats expressed outrage at the decision by Ratcliffe, who directs the office overseeing the nation's intelligence agencies.

I get the impression from this, and other articles, that one side is attempting to use information gleaned during the Election Security briefings to give their Presidential candidate an advantage....aka: "Cheating".

In 2016, classified accusations against Donald Trump and his association Russia were circulated out of Congress to the media. Thankfully, they didn't prevent him from winning.

This election cycle, stringent security measures to protect the huge number of mail-in ballots are being prepared for implementation.

A Congressman who wants to cheat for his/her candidate can pass that information along to co-conspirators in precincts, at the USPS, and other locations.

In fact, it may have happened already, prompting the Director of National Intelligence (DNI) to cancel the Congressional briefings.

Democrats expressed outrage at the decision... has there been any decision by the current administration that they haven't had the same reaction?

"Leaks" like saying that Russia favors Trump and that China doesn't?

Was this information classified?

ODNI News Release No. 29-20:

On July 24, 2020, I issued a statement to the American public providing an unclassified overview of foreign threats to the 2020 election and offering basic steps to mitigate some of these threats. At that time, I pledged that the U.S. Intelligence Community (IC) would continue to update the American public and other key stakeholders on the evolving election threat landscape, while also safeguarding our intelligence sources and methods.

Today, we are making good on that promise by sharing additional information with the public on the intentions and activities of our adversaries with respect to the 2020 election. This information is being released for the purpose of better informing Americans so they can play a critical role in safeguarding our election. Below is the latest public update:

www.dni.gov... lic

So, that promise is suddenly null and void?

It never says that the agency is going to give it to congress to leak it to the media to twist, it says they are going to release the information to the public itself...not twisted by either side of the political parties.

I believe that, since Congress makes laws, they would be considered to be "key stakeholders" in government activities. Don't you? Do you think whithholding information from one branch of government while providing it to another is a good idea? Is that how the system is set up?

But what "leaks" do you suppose the OP is talking about? Anything come to mind?

Makes some people think this "interference" may not really be emanating from "foreign" sources.

Perhaps "domestic" *sources* operating on "foreign" soil !! 😎🚬

There have been lots of leaks from the Democrat party, in a video Pelosi even brags about it as a political ploy...leak things to the press so they can twist it and make it appear concerning. Then the Dems could use the distorted information to make it appear there is something going on. I wish I had bookmarked her speech on that but it has been here on this site a couple of times.

Of classified information regarding elections? I was not aware of that.

If it's not classified information, is it a leak?

ODNI told congressional officials that it will still provide written briefings on election security, but that they should not expect verbal in-person briefings on the topic, which give members an opportunity to ask questions & challenge briefers
twitter.com...

How does this prevent leaks of classified information?

Ask me no questions,
I'll tell you no lies?

i believe the goal must be thecprevention of cherry picking information. Such as china donating to a certain group and russia donating to a certain group.. but the media only releases the one hurting trump.... maybe

The problem is Adam Schiff has on more than a few occasions has told the media that he doesn't leak information, he only exposes it. He's the chairman of the House Intel committee, he shouldn't be doing that. I bet that's where this worry has come from.

Makes sense. Have each report worded in a specific way, then if something if leaked directly for the report... Bang! You have your leaker.

They're just upset because Joey-Joe tried to eat one of his Duplo bricks and had to sit in the basement untill he stopped. That's the real reason Joey-Joe is in the basement.

There are enemies to America working within Congress. James Wolfe was a Senate leaker. But the deep state protected him by only indicting him for perjury and being removed from government, instead of the more serious offense of leaking classified information to the media.

It that process what Pelosi described as her "wrap up smear" method for damaging opponents?

Like I said in the OP, based on what we know about how Democrats operate, it's likely that classified mail-in voting security safeguards are being "leaked" to those who want to beat or bypass them.

The leaks by the Democrats in the past were not yet determined to be declassified. Everything from the executive branch needs to be evaluated to determine if it is classified or declassified according to the rules in place in our government. Now is that rule right? I do not agree that it always is. But what is good for the goose is good for the gander, the Democrat party is opening a can of worms....If Biden gets elected, the Republicans will use the Democrats tactics because the democrats set precedence in the government, claiming the crap they were doing was appropriate. I forsee our government folding, I wonder what country will get Hawaii, probably China because we owe them lots of money.

You will then be a resident of China
