According to RIA Novosti, the Moscow District Court of St. Petersburg has brought a
Norwegian citizen to administrative responsibility for trying to remove the hair of medical students from Russia. In August 2018, customs officers at
Pulkovo Airport decided to inspect the luggage of a man heading to Norway. He proceeded through the "green" corridor - that is, he did not have any
goods to declare. During the check, 76 paper envelopes were found with the Norwegian, which contained hair. Examination showed that it was human hair.
They do not belong to the category of personal goods, so they had to be declared.
The man did not appear at the court, despite the fact that he was told about the time and place of the hearing. Also, his lawyer did not appear at the
hearing, although he initially asked for a punishment in the form of confiscation of hair.
The situation was commented on by Russian scientists - geneticists.
Geneticist Professor Yevgeny Lilin said that the Norwegian scientist could have been collecting data from the Y-chromosomal haplogroup R1a1.
"This can be called the collection of data on the genome of young Russian women. Why and for whom it was needed - we naturally do not know today. But
the creation of banks of genomes of people of different nationalities, different ethnic groups is extremely promising for possible searches for
modeling the impact on these ethnic groups and on persons of one sex or another. While banks are only being created, but what they have a further
purpose is very difficult to say, because it can be completely different. "
One of the examples of the use of genetic databanks, Lilin called the creation of an "ideal person" by combining biomaterials of different population
groups, genotypes, which often leads to positive results.
"Maybe for this. But on the other hand, the collection can have a directly opposite purpose, namely, the creation of certain elements of influence on
the corresponding genotypes, the corresponding genomes for one purpose or another. We have a lot of examples when the presence or absence of a certain
enzyme leads to sad consequences. For example, the peoples of the north do not have alcohol dehydrogenase (an enzyme that catalyzes the oxidation of
alcohols to aldehydes and ketones. - Approx. FAN), so it costs nothing to drink them. That's why the collection of genetic data - we must speak
carefully - can answer differently , not always useful, for the purpose. And the collection of hair, of course, raises a lot of questions. So the
removal of such envelopes, of course, should take place even without explanation. "
And I want to remind the distinguished members of the forum that at the end of October 2017, Russian President Vladimir Putin at a meeting of the
Human Rights Council mentioned that some people "purposefully and professionally" collect "biological material" from the inhabitants of the Russian
Federation. A little later, Bo Downey, a spokesman for the US Air Force Training Aviation Command (AETC), said that the collection of Russian
biomaterial was allegedly related to the study of the musculoskeletal system and was not intentional.
In Russia, they are confident that the collection of biological samples from Russians is primarily associated with the creation of biological weapons
capable of selectively affecting representatives of certain peoples. This is another "red line" that can lead to a full-scale war, and Russia needs to
act very hard in this situation, but the West is taking these steps.
Thank.
