Bette Midler posts Tweet criticizing Melania Trump's "accent"

Bette Midler really stepped into a big steaming pile today.

Earlier today on Twitter, Midler posted a number of tweets critical of Melania Trump's speech at the RNC convention.

That's fine - everyone is entitled to a totally wrong-headed opinion once in a while.

But she really stepped over the line in one tweet, totally making fun of Melania's Slovenian accent in a post that looked like it came from the account of a nasty high school girl who's jealous of the prettiest girl in the class. Yes, it was *that bad*.

I happened to be online right around that time and saw it. I immediately sent her a tweet calling her out for acting like an idiot.

I went back online about 20 minutes later and saw that an *awful lot* of other people were also calling her out for it, some of them not nearly as politely as I did. After getting the bejesus beaten out of herself for the tweet, she posted another tweet hours later apologizing for her rudely obnoxious behavior.

As if that makes everything OK.

I have a feeling this one is going to stick to her for a while, but who knows.

We've all said some pretty stupid thing in our lives. If she had enough strength of character to recognize she was wrong and publicly admit it, I say accept her apology and let it go.

In today's political climate it's a rare thing for someone to show that kind of integrity. I'd give her a little tip of the hat for that and move on.

We have actually had some wonderful First Ladies in the past.

But you are correct.
Had melania been a Democrat’s wife then she would be all over the media being praised.

funny thing she is married to a man who was born in Argentina of German heritage lived in germany and england.

Okay, so caustic Bette apologised pretty quickly then, and pretty much the same as Trump did with his 'pussy grabbing' remark, which he also admitted was a figment of his imagination. All and sundry, 'forgave' Trump...pretty quickly as I recall.
