My proposal is as follows:

It is not so much of a change of name, as it is adding a designating identifier to the existing name.

This designating identifier will come at the end of the current name.

Perhaps, the best way to explain this proposal is to simply show it.

Using this proposal, today, the name of the virus would be: COVID-19.217

What you are looking at above, is the name of the virus as it would be today using my proposal. The designating identifier (the numbers after "19") are the number of days since the first case of Coronavirus was reported by doctors in Wuhan China. According to the best sources I could find after many searches, that date was Dec. 31, 2019.

And tomorrow, the name of the virus will be: COVID-19.218

This proposal very clearly and easily tells you exactly what virus I am referring to, *and* how long has this scourge been racing around the globe.

Star Trek fans will recognize it as a short star date type of thing. Go Trekkies! They got so much right in that 1960's show...

What say, you fellow ATS Members?

I think it makes a lot of sense. But, what do I know?

When day 0 changes due to new information leaking out or discovered, will all the current numbers change or just be completely inaccurate forever? The day 0 could change many times in the future. Also, who determins the official day 0?

This happened on COVID-19.217C(chicom), COVID-19.267F(faucist), COVID-19.584NR(newreconning).

Ha!

Good points all!

I don't know...

As an old boss of mine used to say - "Ideas are cheap. Implementation is expensive"

As far as I'm concerned, as the author and inventor of this, I shall let another union handle the details after the fact...

I'm good with Wuhan flu or the CCP virus. Only names I'll use.

Everytime I hear somebody say "Covid," I want to punch them in the nose. Have not done that and I won't, but I still want to. Not partial to bowing myself to the WHO, China's li'l b**ch.

Well, it isn't related to influenza, so none of those actually work.

Doesn't really matter what label you give it. It still does what it does.

The problem with that is that they infected themselves, first.

If it were a weapon of intent, they would have released it elsewhere.

It would also be more deadly.

There are also some indications that it was active in Northern Europe before the Chinese identified it.

I'm more troubled by their attempts to hide and cover up the seriousness of the virus.

He never said anything in his post about intent.

Only that this originated in China. Just like SARS, H1N1, Avian Flu...and the list of "gifts" from CHina goes on and on.

Why?

I agree.

That was a bullsh#t thing to do to the world. Would we have reacted any differently if they hadn't tried to hide and cover it up?

How many lives might have been saved worldwide?

We'll never know now, will we?

And that's a f#cking disgrace!

Because there are a lot of humans there.

You failed to mention the plagues where the epidmic originated/centered in the US.

For a more balanced view refer to this list of epidemics: List of epidemics
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

In this list, I count six epidemics from China and 47 from the American continent, excluding those that were worldwide. Why is that?

It should be called what it really is, SARS2.

But for reasons, they didn't want to call it that.

Covid19 is the disease, the virus is SARS-CoV-2.

True - I will totally concede to you on that point. Not that I ever said anything different.

But was it despicable, or was it lack of information or more importantly - lack of knowledge?

Information is useless without knowledge.

Information sans knowledge is nothing more than random data and gibberish.

You're correct, of course.

But this entire thing is a steaming pile of horsesh#t from top to bottom.

And the sophistry around language as evidenced by the zillions of posts in the 10's or 100's of threads about Covid19 or SARS-CoV-2 or whatever the hell people want to call it, is proof.

Someone should run a program that scans each post about this virus/disease and produce of list of names that have been used to reference it.

The mind boggles...
