Sweden tried something like that. A lot of people died.

“It is now time to review the corona strategy,” Hansson and Calmfors wrote. “The beginning of autumn may be crucial for the corona pandemic’s continued development in the country. A real retake is needed for the continued infection control strategy so that the spread of infection is kept down while waiting for both better treatment methods and vaccines,” they said.

“Covid-19 has meant a national disaster for Sweden. Slow and insufficient action has probably contributed to this. And medics feel that the Swedish Public Health Agency does not reconsider (its strategy) when new information is available.”

Seems that natural herd immunity may be more difficult to obtain than some thought.

The health authorities predicted that 40% of the Stockholm population would have had the disease and acquired antibodies by May 2020. However, the actual prevalence figure was around 15%. While clinical and research findings suggest that severely infected Covid-19 patients do acquire antibodies in the immediate and early recovery phase of their illness, antibodies are much less commonly found in only mildly ill or asymptomatic patients. This means they are very likely not to be immune, and so cannot act as a bulwark against further spread of infection amongst the community.

Yup, and the longer you drag it out, there will be 3rd waves and 4th waves.

Covid is coming.
You will likely get it at some point.
It likely will not hurt you beyond a normal flu.

But some will die from it.
Some will die from flu.
Some will die from car accidents.

Life is risk. And choosing not to live life is a risk, too.

I'm a hang glider pilot. I understand risk and I understand risk management.

Your "people will die" attitude is wonderfully selfish but it does disregard at least a couple of factors:
If too many people get sick at once, this too creates economic problems.
If a hospital has too many COVID patients it creates problems for those who are not infected.
