CIA Admits It Allowed Error in Bush Speech

Comments about Iraq seeking uranium 'should never have been included,' Tenet says. White House publicly criticizes the agency.

WASHINGTON -- The CIA wrongly allowed President Bush to tell the American people that Iraq tried to buy uranium from Africa, despite analysts' doubts about the information, the agency's director, George J. Tenet, acknowledged Friday.

"These 16 words should never have been included in the text written for the president," Tenet said, referring to a section of January's State of the Union address in which Bush said: "The British government has learned that Saddam Hussein recently sought significant quantities of uranium from Africa."
www.latimes.com...

Does anyone BELIEVE this crap? Tenet is taking the fall for another BUSH LIE? The CIA was telling us that Iraq was NEVER a threat BEFORE the speech came out---since October of last year! Does any THINKING American believe this? Yet its Tenet's fault.

Why is it that the knuckle-dragging, bone-headed republicans still support this man when he lies to them everyday? Everything Bush says is a LIE. The man is a LIAR and a FAKE. Every rational thinking human being on the planet can see it...except for republicans.

I wonder where that leaves them?

Exactly!

And I guarantee that the next election will be a FRAUD. Yes, a FRAUD. Why?

PEOPLE WHO ILLEGALLY SEIZE POWER DO NOT WILLINGLY GIVE IT UP TO THE DEMOCRATIC PROCESS.

Why did Colin Powell conviently leave this out of his address to the UN? I can't stand Bush, but I would actually tip my hat to him if he just stepped up to the plate & said, Yeah, look I jumped the gun,bad move"We all make mistakes & I'm sure alot of people still wouldn't let up but atleast Bush's critics would have no more to go. Bush is just arrogant. He feels admitting ANY of his errors is weak. Its not,Instead,he is constantly looking for scapegoats!

would be the ideal leader, if he did for the people and wasn't overtaken by what the other politicians wanted him to do.

just because the american people know about this, doesn't mean they are going to do anyhting about it.

IMO, Powell is the ONLY honest man in Bush's administration! I honestly feel he left that info.out because he didn't wish to lie to the American People! I don't always agree w/Powell, but he is IMO,a man of honor!

Get a grip Colonel.....is it so hard to believe that people make mistakes?!?

What does the article say......?!

In your delusional hatred you, again, spout forth with a "clear cut understanding" to this and what the article reads? Is your perceptive abilities truly that keen?

I have one question? What are you folks and Democrats going to whine and cry about when those WMD are ever found?!?!?! The further you guys go into this, the deeper your screwed when WMD's are found, eh?

LOL, you guys like lil' kids standing on a hot sidewalk.....jumping from one spot to the next.
Opps, hey look......found some CHEESE to go with that whine!!
Better yet, how about a tissue maybe?

btw: "if" implies 50/50 percent chance......

I guess now we take what the BBC sources offer as holy writ (no offense)??

If Sadaam were not murdering, torturing (decapitating, sticking probes up innocent civilians anuses; cutting out tongues, appendages); applying nerve agent and mustard gas to women and children SOME HERE OBVIOUSLY COULD GIVE A CRAP ABOUT; I suppose this one line of accusation about a miniscule
African country concerning a FACT that the UN had known about (sadaams intentions) for over 12 years negates the whole purpose of Iraq!????

Hate for hate's sake is a sign of some nasty pathology.

Quoted by Colonel:

This particular issue of the CIA previously warning the White House prior to the invasion of Iraq will, in my opinion, be somewhat more covered in the media than have previous news stories. I say this because surprisingly, it appears that the mainstream media is becoming more aware of the disinformation that has been passed down to the American people from our government.

I never felt the nuke issue was paramount in the decision to invade...matter of fact, I thought Bush was reaching a bit for reasons because the there was a lack of outrage in the American public to the atrocities in Iraq. I would hope this is not the case....

That said, I also think the many years of UN hand ringing over what to do in Iraq just plain made American cynical as to whether anyone would act on this murderer and attempted murderer(Bush1). I do not think we had to make up stuff to send men and women to battle. Sadaam needed to go. He eventually would have waged war on Kuwait/Saudi Arabia and his desire to eradicate the Kurds was only hindered by coalition aircover during the 90s

We can all agree this is a nasty situation. I think it is and told co-workers the war was yet to come - fixing Iraq when Baathist and Iranians would like nothing better than to see this enterprise fail. The Admin cant back down now, too much world face lost. Any credibility as the world "cop" will be squandered....a mess indeed, unfortunately, one America must fight through.

Colonel I am sick of listening to you.

Why?

Because, as everyone here who has graduated high school would surely agree, you've never even had ONE government class. Let alone any grasp or concept of United States Government.

I suggest you learn what that "democratic" process is.

America has never had a "Democratic process".

Early on only White males with land were allowed to vote.

And then while more and more people were allowed to vote....it stopped mattering because the Supreme Court assumed control of most things.

Does this lessen the nation any?

No.

Just means more need to be aware.

And sorry but the Democrats feed off of ignorance, because no one would willingly vote for them if they knew what they did to the country since the Civil War.

Hell, Abe Lincoln wanted to get rid of Executive Orders (he started them in the first place, to call the militia into the Union Army), he wanted to restore all the powers to the states that were taken away during the Civil War, and he wanted to insure that no further powers were taken away.

When he was assassinated, Andrew Johnson wanted to follow his footsteps and see to it that these things were done.

Well we all know what happend. The Democratic Congress impeached Andrew Johnson.

I suggest you hit the books again Colonel.

I'm not sure I quite recognise that version of Andrew Johnson ( for whom Estragon has always had a soft spot because he -Johnson, not Estragon, of course - turned up completely smashed for the Vice-Presidential inauguration)or of his impeachment ( he was, of course, acquitted); but it is hard to disagree with the notion that the US -or the West in general - really has no "democratic process" in any very meaningful sense of either word: we turn up, if we can be bothered, to put our cross against a name every four or five years and go home to be largely ignored until the next election is in sight.

Don't think of it in a meaningful sense of the word, democratic process is a mob going down the street rioting.

The word Democracy to the greeks (forget its exact root damn...), didn't mean just "people" but was equally used to mean mobs.

The USA is beyond "Democratic process" for good reason, the Democratic Process always fails....while our system, never will until there are more immigrants than naturals here in which case most of the population will be unable to grasp the concept of our Republic, due to their prior experiences.

Meant "power of the demos": F-M: not quite "the people" since women and slaves were excluded: but basically all male Athenians had a say. (and they had the time since women and slaves did all of the work!)
Imperial Rome tended to pretend it ahd a democracy but Emperors were a pretty cynical bunch and well understood (as do our modern tyrants) the power of bread and circuses.
Power of the mob is actually "ochlocracy" ( real word but rather a mouthful!).
One sometimes wonders if there has ever been a "democracy" -perhaps there hasn't and that tells us something about political power and how to fool most of the people all of the time.

I'll be interested to see if Tenet has done any good by falling on his sword.
It appears that Phase 2 will be to blame Blqair and forget all about Tenet.
Some strange things happen where the CIA and the Pentagon are concerned. I'm put in mind of William Colby who "disappeared" while canoeing 6 years ago (at a most convenient time).
Tenet is, of course, Clinton-era so maybe he won't really be missed if he finds himself morally obliged to resign (or if GWB fires him).
