Yeah, Neil Young played some guitar licks and it droned on and on. It would have been better with less of that IMO.

I saw it broadcast on an Independent Film program then bought it in the Walmart discount bin, what a great find. Then I lent it to a friend, who then got into a car wreck. I don't think he ever got to watch it.

To force somebody to be "cured" or to force a certain standard of living without an individuals consent is essentially rape imo.

I agree with your sentiments about "rape" of the mind/body as above. However we live in a society that creates money out of thin air and yet wastes trillions waging war. How is that not harming the full potentiality of what society could be?

In response to your comment and in relation to my long drawn out messy and embarrassing essay, I think the question would lie once again in where and what lines should be drawn- what should be enforced, how it should be enforced, and etc. A lot of it has already been laid down for us and we have a solid foundation of which we should not totally annihilate imo, but I feel like... extra line making and can lead to a tyrannical state, like people are going line crazy.

And who gets to decide what the full potentiality of what society could be?

Who gets to decide what is best for me, you, society, everybody, and draw the lines?

I agree that greed and war and even pollution is a thing we can all work towards reducing- and in which we should draw lines so that when somebody crosses one of those lines we can then step in and deliver speedy and fair consequences, but again there is a danger to going overboard with the line drawing. Too many lines could lead to Demolition Man, lol, where having a burger is illegal. Too many lines in the market as well could choke out the market and lead to a poor economy.

Imo achieving a good balance is the answer.

And it's about establishing a healthy relationship between the people making the decisions, and the adult-children living with the consequences of those decisions, lol.

The parallels to child rearing are so accurate and I agree that there are a lot of “adult children” wandering around.

I’m not a psychologist, or psychiatrist. I can’t even begin to answer that.
Were you seriously asking me to? Or just being contrary?

Yeah, of course there are nuances to any argument, as you mentioned, but in general it does boil down to personal choice, if it doesn't harm anyone else. Therein lies the crux of the issue and the nuances (and the arguments used): I think most arguments, at least initially, against porn were not because some people are victimized, which is true, but that it "corrupts." Same with drugs, but if a personal wants to corrupt or harm themselves, what does that say about self harm through drugs (and alcohol/nicotine being legal). Of course, that also goes back to the propaganda used in the early days of criminalizing weed, that it corrupts the youth, makes them crazy, and back dope fiends will rape your white daughters. True, abortion is a very grey area, and not a debate for this thread, yet it still boils down to: How does what I do with my body affect you? If it doesn't, FO. Then again, taking away the freedom of others does affect others.

Again, that is all busybodies putting themselves into what others do or want to do for the busybodies own agenda, however right, or good their intentions seem, which then became law preventing others.

I agree that if people would tend to themselves more than their neighbors then all the problems caused by “busybodies” would greatly diminish.

Yeah, if people would mind their own business and tend to their own problems there would be fewer problems; however, that sentiment does NOT extent to fighting for justice for others.

Just stupid # like that, even insofar as "no alcohol sales on Sundays," which was still illegal in my area until recently. Your religious beliefs affect my freedom to purchase on Sunday? How does it affect you?

I actually love that main riff played throughout, and the variatipns. Sometimes, I watch that movie for the music and visuals alone. I think adds so much on a minimalist level and helps define the stark, bleakness of the film and set the mood.

But that's just me.

The cameos are equally awesome though: Crispin Glover prophesying, Byrne, Mitchum, Bill Bob, Iggy....

A very fine Jarmusch film.

Yeah, I agree, it fit the mood, but way over played IMO. I thought less riffs and more silence or maybe some fitting background sounds would have been just as good for setting a stark and bleak mood. But that was my only criticism really, I want another copy actually.

Lol, it's all about boundaries man.

I think sometimes I'm a line crosser too in the eyes of many, when it comes to speaking out about "taboo" subjects. I'm all about the TMI.

Does attempting to bite people's asses count as crossing boundaries or lines?

I think not.

Not being contrary. I struggle to understand how children do such acts. Just seeking out others thoughts

Lol!

Attempting? The word "attempting" implies that there may have been a moment in which one asked for consent.

I am ashamed to say that I didn't ask for any consent and that there was no attempting, I simply did it. In that way I may be a line crosser as well!!!

Despite commonly held belief, psychopathy is mostly determined genetically. The ‘nurture’ side can exacerbate the condition, but this abnormality of brain function is primarily an inherited, DNA-caused condition. That being the case, the chances of both boys suffering from it is minimal. That said, it’s perfectly possible for one of the boys to be afflicted with the disorder and to have manipulated the other.

Pretty frightening, it can happen to anyone?

You know what? I think this is a really point. Though I think it may be more of a middle ground somehow? I don't think anyone can be truly "good" until he/she confronts how truly "bad" they can potentially be.

I don't really know, but psychopathy seems to be the answer (as you later linked).
As another poster pointed out, maybe we are born monsters and have to become good? I don't understand it. I have not delved too deep into that field of study, as it is so depressing and makes my world dark.

It is scary, that it can affect anyone and seems to be genetic.
