So long story short, I was disputing an electric bill that was way too high, and when the lady was explaining the usage, she mentions "I see you wake up around ** and go to sleep around ***... I am like excuse me? I know it's easy to tell this stuff by usage but they shouldn't be saying it like that.....Creepy.

Only if you are unlucky enough to move to a property with one there already or silly enough to allow one to be installed.

I guess it depends on the nation, area, and power company to be honest.

Usage patterns are very easy to track.
They have a program here called time of use.
Bascially they offer cheaper electric when it is an off time vs. high usage time.

I rent, so I have no say so as far as the property goes with things like this.

Just set the lights for your "tomato" garden to start when you sleep.

Power company thinks that you never sleep, and now they are fearful of you.

Win win.

And people actually believed smart meters would benefit them and not the people keeping track.

When the rationing starts they will use smart meters to keep us in line.

My parents had a smart meter on there old house, one summer utility company shut there air conditioning off 4 times mid afternoon.

I will never have one on my home. They can turn your clothes dryer off with it too if they feel the need.

The old ones that still like negatives are becoming few and far between.

A lot of people cannot actually have a smart meter installed, simply because there is no space on the board to mount such.

Safety code requiring an unobstructed space.

I know a few Sparks that have installed the things from time to time, and they are a fecking nightmare sometimes.

I tried to opt out and the electric company guy gave me the hardest time , saying we may have to bring the police and about how we may not beable to provide a service to you anymore.

Sounded mostly like BS but i just agreed rather than deal with the headache...

Soon they're gonna force 5g on us anyway.. so what does it matter i guess..

Where I live I think there is basically one company, maybe 2. They are becoming monopolized.

I may just get some timers to set on random stuff at all weird hours why not.

A normal smart meter doesn't have that ability. It's just an on off switch controlled electronically. However there are some places that would offer discounts to hook your a/c system through a separate metering device to have the ability to offset the upstarts. They dont give enough electrical load allowance for everyone's units to beable to start at the same time.

Have one fire up a blender every night at 2am, the electric company will think your making midnight margaritas every night.

We had no choice here, some people were able to fight it for a bit. Anyway, it's not cool.
