What we know so far: hundreds of Twitter accounts are being hijacked at set intervals like clockwork, indicating attack is automated. Began @ ~3:30pm ET. The fact that it's still ongoing +5hrs later, suggests it's an external attack and not an inside job as many are speculating.

I don’t know Jack about Twitter.

Any of the more knowledgeable folks thinks this could be a cover for something else besides a bitcoin scam? It appears to involve complete administrative access. Possibly an inside connection farmed out?

What might this accomplish?

It effectively shuts down all new tweets for the time being.

If it is an administrative level intrusion, could the possibility that past tweets might be altered, make them all inadmissible as reliable court evidence?

Could the possibility of the archive being corrupted be an excuse to delete large segments or the history of certain accounts?

Look at the accounts involved.

It is amusing to me this brand of poster that populates the world of online - here and elsewhere, follows this exact line of orthodoxy. Using it as a "debunking" point in places where folks are actually seeking to grow. While claiming this inherited morally superior position in EXACTLY the same way a millions of others - hive mind.

I just mentioned today there is an entire generation of "Idiocracy" folks who simply seem incapable of learning at all, yet are militant about how they've figured it all out already. As in ALL. As in everything, ever, yet fail to see anything in context of another, let alone themselves.

No idea how true but some reports are saying Twitter confirms it has tools that allows its employees to take control of accounts and tweet on their behalf.

Hackers gained access to these tools via social engineering attack on twitter employees with access to these tools.

I had a phonecall with my 83 yr old ma this evening - a strong cookie with a deep instinct for survival...

1) She's losing the stamina to move as much and realises she's in her last year or two. She has therefore "come to the realisation", on COVID/isolation, that this is what it's going to be like for her remaining life!

2) She's asked me, in effect, to choose between seeing her and her twin brother, because my uncle's wife works in a supermarket, so I will give her COVID if I see him and then see her! ...but he's had a stroke and relies on offloading his marriage stresses onto me.

3) My daughter is 35 this week and diabetic - when reminding mum of the birthday it became obvious that she's cutting off from connecting with her grandchildren - preferring to hide away in a coccoon of self-preservation.

4) I was brought up to look after older family and be a comfort to them in their old age - this isolation and scaremongering is literally tearing families apart. The older generation NEED the younger generations to give them quality to their end of life.


Surely the COVID "episode" has now fulfilled the required lessons? I can't believe there is sufficient need to extend this in comparison to the un-christian habits it is forming in our society and the destruction of charity, love and happiness in our families.

Interesting comment re invalidating tweets as evidence, cimmerius.

Maybe this is an important reason why we were told to ARCHIVE EVERYTHING? In picture terms an archive of data before such problems is the equivalent of an evidence snapshot!

Isn't it weird that this exposed the fact that Twitter can just make posts in your name without your permission, and that was "OK"?

How much does everyone want to bet that's going to be the excuse these guilty folks who got hacked into (if we can even call it that) will use for any "Questionable" material found in their histories? (ie Chrissy T)
