Operation Legend update from the 1st city receiving the Federal Assistance, Kansas City.

In the past week, more than 50 arrests have been made as part of Operation LeGend, the U.S. attorney’s office claimed Tuesday evening of the federal operation focused on reducing and solving homicides in Kansas City.

“For those keeping score at home … federal agents and their local law enforcement partners in #OperationLeGendKC made 50+ arrests this past week. They seized 15 guns, heroin, meth, marijuana, pills,” the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Western District of Missouri tweeted.

The office’s tweets came hours after Attorney General William Barr confirmed he “misspoke” last week when he announced more than 200 arrests had been made through the operation. Justice Department officials later clarified that a large majority of those arrests occurred under a program that started in the 2019, called Operation Relentless Pursuit.

“That’s 50+ dangerous (often armed) individuals no longer free to wreak violence in our neighborhoods and poison our community with illegal drugs. That’s future mayhem and murder prevented. That’s justice for their victims,” the attorney’s office Twitter post continued.

A suspect has been arrested for murdering 4 year old LeGend Taliferro, the little boy whom this Department of Justice operation was launched in honor of.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A 22-year-old Kansas City, Missouri, man has been charged in the shooting death of 4-year-old LeGend Taliferro, the Jackson County prosecutor announced Thursday.

During an afternoon press conference, authorities announced that Ryson B. Ellis, 22, has been charged with LeGend's murder. He faces one count each of second-degree murder and unlawful use of a weapon and two counts of armed criminal action.

LeGend was shot and killed as he slept in his father’s residence on June 29 at the Citadel Apartments in the 1600 block of Bushman Road.

The gunfire came from outside the apartment and struck LeGend through a privacy fence and sliding glass door around 2:30 a.m. at the complex near East 63rd Street and Paseo Boulevard.

Federal authorities named an effort to crack down on violent offenders, which involved sending several hundred officers to KCMO and other cities across the country, Operation LeGend in his memory.

"Today’s arrest of LeGend Taliferro’s suspected murderer marks a significant step forward in his case and illustrates the potential of Operation LeGend more broadly," U.S. Attorney General Bill Barr said in a statement.

"The arrest and state charges resulted from cooperation among Kansas City police officers, the FBI, and U.S. Marshals.

This development is a model for joint efforts to solve crimes and reduce violence in other cities. I thank the state and local law enforcement officers who helped make possible this important step in bringing justice to LeGend, to his family, and to his community.

Thank God we have an Attorney General (William Barr) who cares enough about these mostly Black-on-Black murders, to devote Federal resources to helping urban police departments solve the crimes, and reduce the number of murders going forward.

do you hear yourself? why is enforcing the law such a problem all of a sudden? before there's freedom and civil rights you need to keep order, otherwise it just becomes a cesspool of corruption, street justice and chaos.

if nothing is done about these cities now it'll eventually sow the seeds of violent revolution and civil war, too many are like you in underestimating the situation, being manipulated by those who want chaos and conflict. remember in the future what your naiveté and complacency did to our country and our future if things go your way like i suspect it will. though, many like you won't even understand what you did until its too late.

STATUS UPDATE - September 3, 2020

2,000 Violent Offenders Arrested. 150 of those are murderers.

The anti-crime Operation Legend is “fully underway across the country” and has led to more than 2,000 arrests since its launch in early July, said U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of Ohio Justin Herdman.

As of the end of August, he told “Fox & Friends” on Thursday, more than 470 people have been charged with federal crimes in major metropolitan cities, including nearly 150 people wanted for murder.

“We are not just arresting people for low-level warrants here,” Herdman said. “We’re talking about very violent fugitives, very violent criminals and we're getting them off the streets of these nine cities across the country.”

First launched in Kansas City, Operation Legend expanded to Chicago and Albuquerque on July 22; to Cleveland, Detroit and Milwaukee on July 29; to St. Louis and Memphis on Aug. 6; and to Indianapolis on Aug. 14.

Attorney General William Barr launched Operation Legend as “a sustained, systematic and coordinated law enforcement initiative in which federal law enforcement agencies work in conjunction with state and local law enforcement officials to fight violent crime,” the Department of Justice said in a news release.

CHICAGO MURDER CUT BY ROUGLY 50% SINCE OPERATION LEGAND BEGAN.

The federal government through Operation Legend has "reversed" Chicago's surge in violence, making more than 500 arrests and charging 124 people with federal criminal charges, officials announced.

U.S. Attorney William Barr said during a Wednesday morning press conference that the federal program had helped decrease Chicago's murder rate to the lowest it's been "at any time" since April, cutting the rate "roughly in half since before the operation."

"The results of those actions speak for themselves: over the first five weeks of Operation Legend in Chicago, murders dropped by 50% over the previous five weeks. August ultimately saw a 45% decrease in murders compared to July, and a 35% decrease compared to June," he said.

At least 400 federal agents have been assigned to the Illinois city as part of Operation Legend – roughly 200 of whom were already working there, but whose roles were repurposed, and the remainder being deployed from elsewhere – and over one-thousand in total have been dispatched nationwide.
