Why didn’t they ‘fake find’ WMD s in 2003 Iraq? I still don’t really understand how they got away with orchestrating 9/11. To fake WMDs would have been a synch by comparison. Just to stumble across a silo in the desert containing some noxious chemical and maybe a couple of cruddy rockets, would have solved a bunch of problems. Blair would have been vindicated and kept his reputation. Bush and his entourage seemed believable and heroic. Of course some would have seen through it but many of the masses wouldn’t.

Because they found real ones. The problem was the people and companies that were making them for Sadam. That's why it was hushed up.

It's a valid question, and I think JIMC5499 could well be right as to the answer.

Could also simply be that a "fake-find" could have been too messy and traceable- that step in the PNAC playbook was already underway. Why complicate things?

Actual weapons may not have been found, but they did find 550 TONS of uranium hidden at Iraq's main nuclear weapons research site that was awaiting the refinement process.

WMD was, in fact, found. Check out the link in my sig.

It's disturbing how many people still don't know this 17 years later.

Through interviews with a lot of Saddam's top officials who were captured, it was revealed that his WMD programs were merely on hold. He wanted to get sanctions relief, and then eventually restart them all, including his nuclear program.

Worth noting this is the same strategy Iran was using that the Obama administration fell for with their "deal" that let Iran keep it's nuclear infrastructure and gave them sanctions relief up front. Luckily we didn't have an administration dumb enough to do that with Saddam.

Why fake something that was real?

Agreed. I also remember them finding a relatively small number (small compared to what was expected to be found) of chem & bio artillery shells, but can't find a source at the moment.

I figured they just sent them to Iran or Syria.

I've been lurking nearly every day for 15+ years but only started posting in the last few days so it's probably just me, but I don't see a sig. Can you point me in the right direction?

The reign of terror is over though; after this presidency and the current state of the ‘states’, we’re no longer the world police.

I seem to remember when I was there shortly after that we had a place in my units sector that was cooking a gas. They had set it up in the middle of a neighborhood. You can tell me all day long it wasn't there. I know what I saw. The reason it was hidden from the public I don't know.

I think if you go to your browser settings (the 3 vertical dots), you can switch to desktop version and then see his signature.

The US Defense Spending thread is another one I wish more people understood. That trope needs to die as well. I'm all about informing people who are willing to learn.

As an aside, that is a position many many people across the political spectrum have been demanding for years. Trump actually campaigned on that, and he has been following through on that promise by and large.

Didn't vote for Trump myself, but support his policies in this respect.

I'm assuming from your tone (my sarcasm gauge needle was pegged).....do you think the US should be the world police?

Thank you! I was already up to speed on most of that but it was such a great write up that I printed a portion to have handy for the next time certain friends bring it up.
