Internet Service Providers as a Public Utility for Free Speech

As usual, private tech moves faster
than the folks in Congress can grapple with.
The fact of the matter is, ISP connection is
a new form of Public Utility and has been for decades.

That fact was lobbied away years ago in the
early stages Late 1980's to early 1990's.
By the mid 1990's it was a full blown free for all.
So, where are we now?

I will tell you exactly where we are.
We are in a situation where a few technocrats
are attempting to stifle and herd free speech and mold the
mentality and direction of peoples individuality,
ingenuity,innovation,ideas, thoughts,words, and
opinions into some narrow ravine that leads off
the edge of a cliff into their wallet.

The concept of ISP as a Public Utility subject to
U.S. Constitutional Law would guarantee that all
Website platforms as Riders would be beholden to uphold
the rights of Free Speech. There is an outrageous
excuse by Monopolies that they are "Private" companies
while at the same time enjoying taxpayer benefits and
subsidies.

Yet these very "private companies" choose to censor,
block,delete,defund,shadow ban, at their own discretion.
Here lies the loophole, and subsequently the target.
If measures are not taken to service this target,
The Freedom loving people of Humanity will find
themselves living a "Virtual Totalitarian Prison".

The term "Hate Speech" for example is a just a guise
for Censorship and Control.
For instance, you can call me every name in the book
and I my not like it, and your words may be untrue...
but You have every right to say them.
Some people are just rude. Fact of life.

Has the Supreme Court made a ruling on "Hate Speech"?
It is a rather subjective term. Re evaluation is in order.
So, today, I am the jerk,idiot, a hole,bigot,racist.
But then after I am censored they will need a new target.
Eventually,that target will be their apparatchiks and useful idiots.

You see, everyone in the herd mentality is all for it,
until the "enemy" is gone. Because then they are "wasteful consumers"
who need to be eliminated.

Bottom Line here is that these "Social Media",Search Engine" platforms
have run over you like they cut down the Amazon.
That is why one of these companies is called Amazon
instead of what they really are. Crooked Dick.
It is right on the Logo in your stupid face.

So this needs to be attended to.
The alternatives are bleak.
Such as the above aforementioned.
Otherwise, the cell phones will have to be
shut down for a while.
ATS may not be alone in the dark
after all.

We can take it beyond that.
It seems thru corporations our government is not only stifling free speech but allowing corporations to actually make it impossible for people to make a living.
Visa has already been using the Chinese Social Scoring system in the US to prevent certain people from being paid or using their service to make purchases.

The Church of Woke/Woke Taliban will go into a persons life and find something they said 10 years ago (See the latest with Joe Rogan) and demand their cancellation.

It's no stretch to think that if these people get into power that people will be executed for wrong think.

It can only be beneficial to allow internet access for all, as Tim Berners-Lee said "I would like to see people enrolled in a cheap data plan by default. I would like them to get it for free."

I tend to agree with your premise, but I think you are conflating ISP's, the companies that manage the nuts and bolts Internet 'pipes' coming into your home, be it coax, fiber or phone line, with 'Social Media and Tech' companies,i.e. the ones doing the censoring.

They may seem like one & the same, but they very much are not, and in fact are often rivals. Google has for some time been trying to elbow into the ISP game, with pilot programs to bring Internet service into municipalities throughout the US. They have been fought every step of the way by the entrenched players, Verizon, Comcast, etc.

Big Tech has abrogated any role they have had or claimed to have as 'fact-based, neutral' parties, they are increasingly staking out political positions. Perhaps that is more where your issue lays, and you would not be wrong.

To be clear, if ISP's
were regarded as Public Utilities
operating in The United States of America
under Constitutional Law, any Websites,Platforms,
Social Media, Etc. would have to abide by the
Free Speech rights provided by and currently
upheld by The Supreme Court of The United States.
This would apply to any foreign sites riding on
U.S. I.S.P's as well.
The deal here is that I.S.P.'s themselves would be subject
and beholden to U.S. Constitutional Laws.
Therefore any "Website" I.E.twitter,youtube,facebook,etc.
would have to comply with the Constitutional requirements
set forth by the I.S.P. themselves.

Not at all ISP have 0 control over the internet data ! they only provide you with a pipiline to the internet where there are data center hosting your little concern ! ISP have 0 say in what the other corporation host on their hardware ! And dont forget the usa is not alone in this world so you'll have to raise a firewall China style if you want to control the material available for your citizen ....

Oh adding this we Canadian have something similar stating internet is a essential need , but they are focusing on providing high speed internet to rural part of the contry not control over what you can and cannot see

I.S.P.'s literally are Public Utilities
acting as Private Companies absorbing
the profits with little oversight or

We've out-tech'ed ourselves. Our biggest accomplishment turned out to be our biggest enemy in the end. Along the way, you only had to learn 2+2 to become a teacher, and you only had to learn how to copy & paste to become a journalist. Thus the three biggest failures of American society were all formed in one fell swoop. There are far and few between those who became exceptions to those three.

Well it is either too late or it is not.
it is a matter of forcing the I.S.P.'s to comply
or be shut down. Designated as a Public Utility,
they would be bound to Constitutional Laws/Oversight..
Simple as that.

I think the pressure of that alone would
motivate them. Really all that would be required
would be for them to do what they should have been
doing all along.
