Srivastava said "Chinese actions" on the unofficial border, known as the Line of Actual Control (LAC), led to this month's deadly fight with rocks and batons. No shots were fired.
"At the heart of the matter is that since early May, the Chinese side has been amassing a large contingent of troops and armaments along the LAC," the spokesman charged.
NEW DELHI: India acknowledged for the first time that it has matched China in massing troops at their contested Himalayan border region after a deadly clash this month.
But India's foreign ministry accused China of causing the tensions by starting military deployments, and warned relations between the world's two most populous nations could be undermined if the standoff continues.

India has nukes, will they use them? Will 200 million march in from China?
China has deployed large numbers of troops and weapons along a disputed Himalayan border in violation of bilateral agreements, India’s foreign ministry said on Thursday, accusing Beijing of escalating tensions and triggering a deadly clash last week...
After senior military commanders held parleys this week, both sides have since agreed to disengage their troops on the disputed border.
But in satellite images reviewed by Reuters, China appears to have added new structures near the site of the Galwan Valley clash that India says is on its side of the LAC. These include camouflaged tents or covered structures and a potential new camp under construction with walls or barricades.

I wouldn't be surprised to see an India and Russia front against China with the US supplying weaponry.
The US even helped Stalin back in WW2.
Honestly if another WW happened it would probably be everyone against China, because everyone is getting tired of it. Probably like what Ufoorbhunter mentioned earlier.
New Delhi: As tension continues to simmer between India and China along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in Ladakh, the Indian armed forces have deployed advanced quick-reaction surface-to-air missile defence systems in the mountainous region to thwart any possible attack by Chinese forces, ANI reported Saturday.
"As part of the ongoing build-up in the sector, the air defence systems of both Indian Army and the Indian Air Force have been deployed in the sector to prevent any misadventure by the Chinese Air Force fighter jets or the People's Liberation Army choppers there," government sources told ANI.
India's move comes in the wake of massive Chinese buildup, including positing its superiority aircraft like the Sukhoi-30 and its strategic bombers to the rear locations which have been detected flying near the Indian territory maintaining the 10 km plus distance from the boundary.
BEIJING: China reinforced its troops near the Indian border with mountain climbers and martial arts fighters shortly before a deadly clash this month, state media reported.
Tensions are common between the two nuclear-armed neighbours in the mountainous border terrain, but this month's fighting was their deadliest encounter in over 50 years.
Five new militia divisions including former members of a Mount Everest Olympic torch relay team and fighters from a mixed martial arts club presented themselves for inspection at Lhasa on June 15, official military newspaper China National Defense News reported.

Why on earth would India and China endanger world peace over what ultimately is a relatively very small and uninhabited area with no known major material deposits or even strategic importance.
Why would anyone support either side in any conflict?
The rest of the world should simply say 'If you are stupid enough to kill each other over something so unimportant then get on with it and we'll just sit back and shake our collective heads in disbelief'.

I think you are right....but in your hypothetical situation should other land owners, some far away from 'your' plot of land, be dragged in to your land dispute and/or the fall out from the disagreement threaten their well being?
