Tried, said I can't send PMs to anyone but admins.

It's probably a post count issue. Maybe PM a mod and see how many posts it takes to get that privilege. I think it might be 25 or something, I don't remember.

How hard is it to maintain a website?

Costly?

Depends on the website, what it does, how many simultaneous users there are, how much storage it requires, what kinds of bandwidth its servers require to get content to users and a whole big list of other things.

Same for costs.

ETA - You want to go into competition with YouTube?....get out your wallet!! (and your checkbook, and your credit cards, first born, etc). Actually, forget it...you and every single person you've met in your entire life couldn't afford it (even if you included people you just said hi to on the bus)!! Conversely, if you want to start up an underwater basket weaving discussion forum with a couple dozen members an no significant storage requirements...you could probably do it for free.

EXACTLY ATS is the premiere forum for all things Conspiracy, Taboo etc etc etc.

Obviously I am missing something behind the scenes here because there is definitely a real business opportunity here with this website , I am assuming there is some sort of debt that can know longer be managed or a serious break down in leadership beyond that ATS itself is a Premium name.

Is that stuff expensive? Just trying to compare to another business that has monthly rent, utility fees, employees. Definitely no physical labor involved?

More physical labor than you might think i.e. Managing the Servers and Networking requires a physical person.

Well, in all fairness, it's not that simple. Technology is constantly moving, so are internet trends. What worked yesterday may not work tomorrow, but this isn't just a format issue. It can also involve completely different system architectures and underpinning philosophies. You have to understand how enterprises scale. It's not as easy as it may seem.

Question: How many websites are there on the internet???

Answer: Way TF more than we could possibly ever count, right? (although I bet someone was just bored enough to attempt this once).

Conclusion: How many of those websites are a YouTube, or a FaceBook, or a Twitter, etc. You could probably name them on two hands, but they represent like 0.0000000000000000000000000000001% of all websites. I'd probably bet money you would have better odds winning the lotto than spinning up a website to make money, especially one the size of ATS.

When you add in factors like the current economic climate, coupled with effects on likely collateral business ventures and then potentially facing huge CAPEX expenditures to change postures to meet trends...it can become a 'Perfect Storm' pretty damn fast!

None of us know the exact circumstances of why as it relates to ATS, but there are literally millions of credible reasons. Just be thankful that at least the ownership of ATS though enough of their members to give them a head's up.

Yes sitting down in a chair in air conditioning?
Nothing compared to real physical labor?
Roofing, landscaping, asphalt paving, masonry .

Any most companies have to buy products to resell

Half my neighborhood pizza guys says a majority of his profits go to buying dough.

Atleast they dont have to buy a product or supplies

Again, it depends.

Do you have space in your house for several racks of servers? No? Well, gonna' have to rent a space.

Rather host it instead? Well, you'll pay for the space they have to rent to house it, power it and cool it.

And what happens when something breaks? (Stuff always breaks, every day). Someone has to jump in a car and go lay their hands on it. Don't want to do that? Well, then you'll pay for the guy who does, and his car, and his time, and the parts, and, and, and.

I say this to people a lot, and it's a worn out old phrase, but it's so true...there is no such thing as a free lunch!

Is it on a hot roof in the middle of summer, or out in a yard with a shovel? Nope, but when they get a hole in their roof, they're going to call a roofer. When the roofer's entire payroll, billing and administrative system smokes itself, he's gonna' call the IT guy. Both of those guys spent a lot of time learning that trade, and the roofer isn't going to hire the landscaper to fix his enterprise, because the landscaper doesn't know jack about it. It all washes out in the end.

I said it should be able to cover costs.
I don't think it's a particularly good business opportunity as it stands, but that is cool. If it can cover costs that should be good enough.
If the goal is to make money then I can near guarantee that community ownership will not work.

I know I'm in the minority... and I don't mean for this to come off as a slight or disrespect to the folks that have maintained this site behind the scenes as well as those individuals that have provided loads and loads of well thought out insight in these very forums over the years. At its peak, ATS was truly the a fantastic thing to behold.

But given the direction ATS has gone in the last 3-5 years and all of the political rhetoric and garbage posts with nothing but childish and frankly, stupidly thought out mudslinging between red and blue... I gotta be honest, I wouldn't mind if we just lit a candle and watched this thing fade out of existence.

I miss the old days with tinfoil hats and good old fashioned conspiracy theories. Not everyone throwing out half assed clickbait posts with poorly thought out political garbage. ATS has been a shell of its former glory for a long time now.

Hat tip for the glory days.

There is no money in this site. You let it get taken over by far right propaganda, thus putting off the original core of people interested in conspiracy theories.

What you have now is an echo chamber of hate. It's tragic but it is unsustainable. You made your bed and now you have to lie in it.

So, the question to you is....where have YOU been all these years?????

What, with all of your (28) total posts since 2011? Where were YOU in creating what you wanted this place to be???

Instead you just sat back and let everyone else create content, but then have the balls to come out and post this??? You want to pass judgement on the many members who have spent years posting to this site? To pass judgement on the management here because you no longer like what you just consumed, but never contributed to??? You feel like you're entitled to that, do you? Screw YOU!

Johnny come lately much?? And, let's even look at your alias..."Justice Is Coming", what does this have to do with conspiracies?? What justice would you be referring to; aliens swooping down on Earth and exterminating the human race for being bad people? What?

You see, hypocrites and arm-chair quarterbacks abound in every corner of the world. They exist under every rock, and in every dark corner behind the stove.

You have nothing constructive to add, and what, you hope to drum up a few stars for your years-late commentary? Your last stand perhaps?

Tell me, does it feel good, to get in a couple last licks, on the last day of school, when you did nothing more than sit on the bench?

Enjoy it.

ETA - It would be better if you just faded off into anonymity, just like you've always been here since your start.

Honestly why be a member if all you’re going to do is be critical of the community you’re supposed to be a part of?

Make your own forum and take all the ungrateful, miserable assholes with you.

Maybe just maybe you could contribute to ATS in a positive manner instead of being a total hypocrite.

Don’t let the door hit you on the way out.

Thanks for your massive contribution in the "glory days".
I see you've averaged about 2.5 posts per year. Astounding.

NDA is a part of a business transactions or investments. Anyone concerned about it does not have a grasp on basic transactions which this would be. They aren’t some kind of “conspiracy” to hide. Most biz have NDA in place for many reasons, and then still are completely open about the mission statement and other dealings while still keeping investors protected and private if they so see fit. Does everyone right now know who owns ats now? Lol. Has it ever been an issue till now? It’s already monitored and there are rules in place. Again, does this mean it’s a private place for propaganda? I’m only explaining and NOT an investor. Forget about the NDA and be more concerned with how this site will continue.

I wanted to pop in and say — THERE IS HOPE!!!

We have some AMAZING people leading and helping!

Didn’t have time to read comments in this thread, for the last 6 hours or so.

I knew many were looking for an update.

Apologies for the glumness earlier.

FYI, updating will be minimal in the beginning stages. It needs to be that way.

Maybe it's time for ATS to die.

I remember when it was removed from Wikipedia and the response I saw was nothing.

Time and time against I see topics and voices drowned out by professional skeptics and there army of unelected moderator friends who aren't doing much of anything important really.

When I go to you tube all I see is Secure Team barely and Mysterious Middle East, where is ATS supporting it's army of users and vast collection of knowledge on my Instagram feed or elsewhere?

13 pages down past Shillary outrage posts in political mud pitt designed to do only 1 thing, stir up anger - I can find those in the comments section of every article on Yahoo.

I know they exist but not much else.

This site should have been the hub for wikileaks, snowden and gary mckinion and while its all their its buried under worlds of nonsense.

ATS needs to restart as a professional hub of ideas and commentary first and foremost - period.

If it can't even do that for itself or engage with other industry stalwarts like the trash pile of good and bad that is arfcom to at least promote a shared vision of onward and upward going forward.

Whats the point?

I don't care if the NRA sponsors a forum or its Lesbians with Pets - ATS needs a greater range of exposure and to use that as a platform for truth.

I can say personally there is 5-6 topics that even I could talk about that havent been talked about elsewhere and I am sure thousands of other members could say the same and while I may or may not there is no apparent mechanism here for truly above top secret disclosure and that should be adressed too.

I want a road map to progress and I will happily support the site financially or otherwise through patreon, subscribestr etc

But I have a maxim I live by, help the helpless - not the clueless. Times have changed, the internet took down ironically circuit city even - ATS needs to adapt, reform and solidify its place as a leader in this space.
