I remember there being a bit of a hoo-ha when it was revealed that the USA had a blueprint for war with the UK.

I'd be amazed if all major nations didn't have something similar.

Could china do this? Sure, I guess eventually most countries will have emp tech ,if they don't already.

Would they? Who knows. Maybe.

It would be very foolish of any country to do it though.
My guess is the big players all have sates with nukes attached in orbit right now.
If someone pops their emp they can beat that they are going to be hit with one too. Or a nuke.

The picture SO took way back when comes to mind. In fact in today's world there is so much going on that I am not too worried about something that simple. However we have been warned from people that I do respect very much and I pray this will not happen. In fact the future may hold something very different from what we expect.

I have the idea the USA has out of this world weapons, I bought an Armasight Zeus 3rd gen and a PVS - 14....with a Pinnacle tube years ago....mates

What ya can see at night in just 3 hours of looking up on a clear night...turn the gain on the pvs 14 up to 85 % or more.....

Let's think about this for a moment...

China manufactures, in part or in full, 90% of the electronics in this country. Many of those products haven't even been purchased yet. By nuking the US with an EMP, they would be effectively nuking themselves!

Why would they ever do this??

Not to mention the fact that Beijing, Shanghai, Guanzou, Wuhan and virtually every other major city would be LEVELED with ground burst nukes and the whole of Asia would be decimated with EMP's!!!

There are enough "boomers" sitting off the coast of China to incinerate the entire eastern hemisphere!

Not only do I not believe this story, but I counter with "Oh Hell No!!"

It would be SUICIDE for China...and they know it!!

I don't think a lot of people realize that in every conflict the US has been involved in since Vietnam there have been boomers sitting on the ocean floor just waiting for an escalation. They don't just rise up to the surface when it's all good and start waving a flag. They're there before anyone else, and they stay there after everyone leaves, and when they do leave...no one knows a thing, like they were never there to begin with.

People think ballistic missile submarines travel around with the carrier groups. They don't; those are attack subs. The boomers are nowhere near there. Attack subs are tactical weapons. Boomers are strategic weapons, and they don't show up at the celebration party!

They are just holes in the water. The ultimate stealth.

Then there is your submarine force and our own which could blow up the world a few times over with there internal payload of Trident missiles.

I've known three (3) submariners in my life, one of them I work with right now. All of them were completely different "breeds of cat". Two (2) of them worked on attack boats, and they were fairly normal, albeit a little eerily calm when S# got grazy. The third guy was on a boomer, and he was way out there!! Some of the stuff he told me just ran chills down my spine (even to this day). They would go out for months and just lay somewhere. They left alone, and they came back alone. Their whole mission was conducted completely alone in isolation (not the people, but the boat itself).

It wasn't like the "packs' of subs in WWII. This was/is different. These guys were all alone, just a small metal tube of guys under a great deal of water pressure. Not moving (most times) and completely silent. Every now and then they would start moving and come up just under the surface and string out these mile long antennas where they would get these ELF/ULF signals telling them the world wasn't at war, and they'd go back down.

Note: this dude was the calmest dude I ever met (a really good Mechanical Engineer), until one day he just completely lost it (and I mean "REALLY lost it!", like nothing I've ever seen before or since).

This is the attack china fears the most, if China loses it's electronic capability it will not have much of an upper hand over India.

That said, if China was to do such a thing to a NATO country then they will be unleashing hell on themselves.

My grandfather was on an S class British sub during WW-2 for a while as a radio operator.

Said it was one of the worst experiences of his life, could not breathe properly down to the fumes, could only use the toilet at certain times dependant if it was full of food, then there were depth charges to contend with which were apparently horrendous, and if you did not cover your ears and open your mouth, you could go deaf or end up with blood running out your nose and ears.

He did not fancy it one little bit, ended up being transferred to an Escort Carrier where life above the water was somewhat more a tolerable experience to bear aside from the Kamikaze of course.

Whelp, aside from being utter garbage from a tabloid rag, I'd say some prudence is in order when sizing up the U.S.'s defense arsenal.

Think trillions of "black" dollars feeding the beast for almost a century. Even with the inevitable waste and boondoggles, I'd venture the U.S. has some seriously scary weaponry in place. Even with clowns in office, there is a core of serious pros on the watch.

However, this era will be the main one were we either make it as a planetary whole, or go down in dust. All it ever takes is one suicidal idiot in a position of power.

Math is scary when applied to populations over time.
