Best wishes that good things continue to happen, especially with your mom.

Cleaning, eating better, and drinking less are always good things. I'm doing some much needed laundry right now as my way of creating a positive environment. Now if I can get some good news from the wrist surgeon when I see him tomorrow I'll be that much happier.

A Shed Tale

200 years later……

Word spread quickly around the village. The children especially were excited.
Old Grandfather was back in the village.

Old grandfather was not actually his name.
No one seemed to know who he really was. They only knew that at random times every few years or so he would show up in town to look around and buy a few small items.

The town elders only knew he must be very old. He told amazing tales of ancient times when the land was still known as Accasia. He told stories of dragons and elves, pixies and trolls.

As the mysterious old hooded and robed man stepped out of the general store he was greeted with the voices of dozens and dozens of children and other town folk who had gathered outside to wait for him.

“Tell us a story grandfather.” Said a boy. “Tell us about the great wars.” Said another. “I want to hear about the elves.” Said a little girl. “Were there really elves?”

“Of course not!” said a teenage boy. “That’s just a make believe story.”

The old man sat down in a wooden chair that sat up against the storefront.
“I’ve got time to tell a tale of the old days.” Said the old man.
“Those who lived in those times are with us no more. And I guess they don’t teach your history anymore. Or they have forgotten it.”
“Does anyone remember what they call the land beyond the mountain ridge?”

“They were called the Shedlands!” said an excited little boy. “They said there was magic there.”
“There’s no such thing as magic.” Said a tall boy. “There was never a magic place called The Shed. It’s just fairy tales.”
You are right!” said the old man. “They are fairy tales. And pixie tales. But there was The Shed.”

“Oh yeah!” said another teenager. Then where is it? Why did its magic fail to keep it here?”
“Fail!” exclaimed the old man. “It is because of its magic that it was able to leave.
The Shed wasn’t born here. It visited your land for a time until the evil that controlled this land was conquered.

The Shed began in the land of Nowhere. Many say that the blonde woman know as Jacy discovered it.”
“Was that the donut lady?” asked a little girl.
“Yes.” Said the old man. “She was known for eating a few donuts. But she first discovered the Shed. And yet some were already there. There was TrueBrit and Jane, and Gordi and Syx and Cody, and Night Star..”
“Oh I know about her!” said a little girl. “She was a beautiful elf and she could fight with swords and stuff.”
“Yes.” Said the old man. “And there were many others in the beginning. And the Shed was magical. It was small on the outside but no one was ever able to say how big it was on the inside. It was bigger than imagination!”

continued...

In time the Shed itself compelled its occupants to seek adventure.
They fought pirates and evil wizards and many other evil things.
Then to everyone’s surprise the Shed itself moved. It disappeared from the land of Nowhere and came to this place.
One of the Sheds occupants, Martin it was I do believe, called this land Accasia. And the name stuck as long as the Shed remained.

Now this land wasn’t like it is today when they arrived.
It was barren. The few creatures that still lived here, lived deep underground. They hid in holes and trees.
Vast underground cities were found and abandoned.
The Shed folk set out to find the cause of all this. They discovered various evil wizards and creatures and fought and conquered them.
Peace reigned for a time until the rise of the Witch Queen. There was a great war the involved all in Accasia. Many died. But the Shed folk prevailed and threw down the power of the Witch so that she will never rise again.
I could talk for hours about the Shed folk’s heroic deeds. The many times they fought various evil beings and would be conquerors.

Finally a lasting peace reigned over the land.
The towns grew. They renamed the ancient places.
They began to forget about The Shed.
As for the people in the Shed, they began to wander far from Acassia looking for adventure and who and where they could help.

Then to everyone's surprise, the Shed itself began to call into the minds of the Shed folk.
Everyone suddenly knew that their time here was coming to an end.
They had saved this world. But there were other worlds that still needed help.

So on one fateful day all the Shed folk gathered inside the Shed and it departed.
They went off to fight the evil and make straight the paths of another land.
Rumor has it that wherever they are now, that place is now going by the name of Accasia.”

“Nice story Grandpa.” Said a teenager. “You should be a salesman.”
A group of teenagers laughed as they walked away.
But the smaller children sat wide eyed listening to every word of the old man.
They believed.

“Good children.” Said the old man. “Unfortunately my time for this visit is coming to a close.
But I’ll be back some day. And maybe I’ll have time to tell you about a troll and a dragon lord.”
The children talked excitedly as the old man got up and walked away.

He stepped across the street onto a wooden walkway were there stood three women and four men.
They also wore hoods and robes. Grey hair could be seen beneath their hooded heads. One woman’s hood fell back momentarily exposing a pointed ear.

“Well how did I do?” asked the old man.
“Not bad said one of the hooded men. But you could have mentioned some more of my deeds.”
“I don’t think the children needed to hear about drinking.” Said the old man.
The group laughed then the old man said, “The time of the spell is ending. We must go back now.”
“Good.” Said one of the women. “I like visiting the old places but why does it make us look old when we come here? Let’s get back to the Shedlands.
Then the eight hooded strangers walked towards the forest. And as they walked they were surrounded by a whirling mist. And they disappeared.

Always happy to hear when you are doing better Fin.

I am so relieved to hear that you and your Mom are moving in the right direction. Life is too short and we need to love as much as we can while we still can.

a reply to: Night Star

It seemed that, when I was growing up, there were two types of kids: Dark Crystal kids, and Labyrinth kids. I was one of the former. Funny, I can't even remember the story line anymore.
