I'm a bit confused regarding "Discord."

Isn't it just a somewhat advanced chat client? Bots, roles etc. IRC for the current generation?

I was under the impression it was primarily a way for gamers to communicate.

We had a chat room here which closed for a few reasons, so would Discord be to replace that? Or does it have some capabilities I don't know about that would work for a forum replacement?

This place feels a lot like a boomer chat room. I love it though.

There is different functionality, more geared to user based chats. Instant rewards. media rich. It could work well I think.

You basically read what other people write, and then you respond.
I'm not sure how the archive would work, perhaps it could exist in a different context.

Has anyone set up a GoFundMe page yet? While not viable in the long run, perhaps we could raise enough money to at least keep the site running until either circumstances are better or a preferable alternative is found.

Yes, if anyone really cares about ATS the gofundme page will reveal the truth, but I have conditions...will they be met on a that venue?

Nobody cares about your conditions. If you don't want to contribute don't.

It's really easy.

Many new visitors to ATS will care about my and most other people's conditions, the future is at hand. The key to longevity here is to get with it. Get with it man!

I wouldn't worry too much about Discord's censure policies. I've been in some rough servers, and the only time I've ever seen one get taken down was when some asshat started spamming it with porn.

Couple of options.

Evolve. Lock down visibility of discussion boards to logged in users only. Charge $5 per year to be a member. Create static pages of your best content for non-members, the public and advertisers.

FYI I see a valuable Google remarketing ad at the bottom of this post right now.

I also see your refresh ads script as flawed and working against you. You go for impressions when you need to be going for clicks. People cant even read a whole ad let alone click it before the dang thing changes. Turn that refresh crap off. Impressions generate pennies, clicks mean dollars.

Fire the company handling your ads, friendship or not.

Not really. I promise you none of the long time members, owners, or even newcomers give a damn about your 'conditions'. If newcomers don't like it they will go somewhere else. Perhaps you should do the same.

No, the need to attack me shows the problems here on ATS. Let's expose it and explore it. Or eliminate it. It's your move Skeptic Overlord...Overload.

Emotion running high here and it should be, we are what we are.

I wasn't attacking you, but simply pointing out that if you don't like ATS in its current incarnation and would require your own 'conditions' to consider donating to keep it up, then perhaps there are other venues you could go to that are more in line with whatever your conditions may be.

This is about the saddest thing I've read. I'm surprised how attached I am to these dusty old walls.
Let us pray for an amazing solution.

Why did you not get my last hint? It's a new game afoot and it's about my kind.

"Your kind"? What kind is that? The kind that sows division and makes demands? Good luck with that.

Just a note... I have no idea who made the abovetopsecret subreddit.

It isn't run by us, wasn't founded by us and we have no affiliation with it at all.

Can we sue it to fund the site for using material without permission? Used to be a big market in such things...

This is very sad to hear. I haven't posted until now. I spend my time reading through the fascinating, and numerous threads that are here on this site. This site will be missed very much, along with all the threads that I've been reading through, and find interesting. All the members that post would be missed. I would definitely be willing to donate, or pay to see this site continue. It's definitely needed, especially during this time that we're all finding ourselves in. I look at this site several times a day, when I wake up, while having coffee, or tea, and all throughout the day. It's become my newspaper, and I spend more time here, than on Facebook, or Twitter. I hope this site will continue. I use the Brave browser, and have turned off my ad blocker. I would be willing to donate my BAT to the site. Thank you to the owners of this site, for keeping this site going through all these years, and hopefully through many more years to come.

Even if you could (you can't) there'd be no damages to award, as whoever created that subreddit isn't profiting from it. At best you'd spend a fortune on legal fees just to walk away with a cease and desist against them.

It really pays to read comments someone says prior to comment. It is also easier to properly quote a reply because HAD you done that you would understand my comment.
