I respect police officers & do not want to see them dismantled, but police have just never had to worry about strict oversight and they know citizens are virtually powerless in unlawful arrests and police misconduct. State Police Boards should be a requirement and have complete oversight of the depts and internal affairs. Unbiased investigation is key.

"In nearly two decades with the Minneapolis Police Department, Derek Chauvin faced at least 17 misconduct complaints, none of which derailed his career."

Unfortunately police officers are not held to the highest of standards and accountability and professionalism and ethical duties like they should have been from the start. There is no reason for this-it is dangerous, reckless and irresponsible.

State Police Board oversight of departments, IA & officers should be a requirement.

Police evidence should be treated similar to how medical records are. Citizens should have online access to their arrest evidence and police report and officer information. It should be stored on a secure server and all activity is tracked. Laws can protect both the citizen and the officer by making exploitation and/or misuse of evidence against the other party punishable by harsh consequences similar to how unwarranted access to someone's electronic medical records by anyone not directly involved with a patient's care can results in suspension of license and other penalties. Body cam and dash cam video and audio should be lawfully required to be made available this way.

There is no reason why this these types of protections and access to personal information is not already made available in this fashion. Currently it is a process that usually requires an attorney for getting access to things of this nature.

Citizens are currently put in a disadvantaged situation upon bail or release for non-violent offenses. Often times citizens do not know critical information, much leas the arresting officer's name and badge number. It should be required by law that basic information be given to the arrested citizen within 24 hours of being booked or immediately upon bail or release, whichever comes sooner.

I agree, oversight and criminal reform is needed at all levels.

If we can agree that people, generally speaking, are good individuals, then we can extend that thinking to police officers also. It's just the system they are operating in needs a total deep dive and reform.

My only problem with police is that they are not hard enough on criminals whether they be white or black.
They are also more likely to kill a white criminal than a black criminal, which is a result of the fake narrative being driven by the media and the racist black people who lead BLM.

Technically you're right in that the odds are better of a police killing, both of an armed and of an unarmed person being White, but the odds of a Black person (both armed and unarmed) being a victim of police killing are higher than those of a White person.

In other words, more White people are killed by police, but a higher percentage of Black people are killed by police. Blacks are killed at a higher rate per capita, but there are more Whites than Blacks in the US, enough so that the number of Whites killed is larger, despite a lower per capita victim rate.

I remember back in the early/ mid 80s we were heading back from a late movie or something and on the other side of town we had to detour due to lots of police activity and fire trucks. We stopped as a cop was redirecting traffic and our group's wise ass rolled down his window and asked the cop what was going on. " Nothing, just keep moving." was his replay. The group's joke from then on when we saw a police officer was to ask the question: " Excuse me officer, is it true an arrogant cop got shot?" I've run into a few arrogant cops, but most were okay. One friend became a cop. I just don't go out of my way to have any contact with them. I am EXTREMELY critical of them when they abuse their authority or display behavior unfit to wear the uniform. This Derek Chauvin, crucify him. I haven't seen that he was racist, they haven't published any accounts of him being racist on social media or through anyone who had contact with him. He does seem to be an A hole. But George Floyd also comes across as at least a doofus and is definitely NOT worthy of being called a hero or an upstanding victime. Just a load who got into trouble and ran into a jerk who had it out for him. His family looks to be losers as well with their choice of lawyer and making his death a circus side show. Idiots tend to be idiots and run into cops who then show their bad side. Be an idiot to me and you'll see my bad side.
