Happy Birthday Sir Tom Jones , 80 Today and Still Going Strong

Jones the voice turned 80 today and if it weren't for the Corona Virus he'd still be touring , he was due to play an open air gig in my town this year but obviously it's been postponed.
His career started in the mid 60's and he's been touring and pumping out the hits since then , he is a man of longevity and talent who can claim Elvis Presley as one of his close friends.

Sounds like my mom. My mother was mesmerized by Tom back in the late 60's and never missed his show.
This is probably my favorite clip of him, singing along with Janis Joplin. Her energy level is off the chart in this clip.

I remember that story. He borrowed the name from a real German composer. To avoid upsetting the Germans, once he became known more internationally, he abbreviated it to "Engelbert".

Engelbert's sister was a friend of my mom , she owned a toy shop and me and my sister used to get to play with the toys in the stock room.

Here's an interesting bit of trivia about Tom Jones...

I suspect most people have heard of Elvira: Mistress of the Dark (aka Cassandra Petersen), right? The horror movie hostess?

Well, she claims to have lost her virginity to Tom Jones...who apparently banged on her drum so hard he broke the whole damn drum set,...and she had to go in for a professional 'drum' repair!!

Who knew? Ol' Tommy wasn't just a crooner, he was apparently also a pretty savage drummer too!

Tom Jones’ estranged son has been caught on camera busking to his father’s hit songs including Delilah and It’s Not Unusual in a bid for money from passersby.

Jonathon Berkery goes by the name Jon Jones, has a cardboard sign that pleads for help and simply reads: ‘I Need Money’.

Jon, 29, lives in Hoboken in New Jersey, a blue-collar town close to the skyline of Manhattan, New York City and lives in a homeless shelter in the city; he also works part time stacking shelves for £5.50 an hour.

‘Not having a father growing up was tough. All I ever wanted was his love. People think I look and sound like a younger version of my dad,’ he told the Mail On Sunday.

Yeah so do I , I wasn't abandoned so sympathies with your situation but my father left when I was a kid , my mother took on the role of mother and father and worked her socks off to bring us up to be decent people , I don't feel I missed out.

If I discovered my father was Tom Jones I'd be more interested in getting to know him not begging him for money.
