Folks are making a big deal over this and I guess rightly so.

However my take is that this old guy was either a fool or was looking for a confrontation for notoriety.

A fool would walk up to a line of stormtroopers, get right in their faces, point a hand held object towards them and make an arm movement towards their holstered equipment.

Or if he wanted to incite them to provoke an event such as transpired to make one more case against police brutality.

For one thing though, the police did first report this as an accident where the old man just tripped and fell on his own. Once the video emerged, the commissioner quickly reversed his stance and put the two officers on leave. A more apt excuse would have been to just say, '' the old guy made advnacing gestures and reached for my equiptment rather than lying about what happened.

Likely the old guy, while moving his hand towards the storm-troopers equipment, made some kind of comment that triggered the officer.

So my take is the old guy was a fool. For crying out loud, he's 75 and stupid enough to confront a throng of advancing governmental might. He was protesting against police brutality. What the hell did he expect, a dozen roses?

On the other hand, that cop should have been much more mature, should have taken him by the hand and escorted him to a near by brick, sat him down and said something like '' Sit down pops and don't get hurt.

Stupid old man or not, even these cops showed more humanity in the moment.

In the moment, they did.
But he seems to have ceased to exist later, after he was identified and tracked down.

If I wore a trump hat to one of these rallies, no I don't own one, I would probably get my ass kicked.

Would I have deserved an ass whooping?
No.
Should I have expected one?
Probably.

Left my Mercedes on a bad street in Detroit....
Probably should have know better.

This was an old man who didn't exactly look light on his feet..
Should he have been knocked down?
No.
Is anyone really shocked?
I hope not.

I think this one should be put down to stupidity on the old guys part, if he's been on this planet 75 years and it brings him to this, then he isn't retaining the right educational learning that life serves up every minute of every day to us all. He asked for that in my opinion, and he got it.. trying to be a martyr and give his empty life meaning..

And that is the question to come from this. Stupid or brave. Stupid if he did not know it would be filmed. Brave if he did. Had it not been for the film, well, he would have been a stupid old man who tripped over his own feet and never heard from again. Now he will be interviewed ad nauseam.

So, who did the video and was he a friend of the old guy.

Both.
He was brave to do it, but it was a stupid move if your goal is to live a long life under the CCP.

Sadly Mr. Flop I agree. He and I are the same age group and my experience has been to keep a smart distance between myself and marching cops. At least a state of distance. Part of me thinks, gee Ter, gotta honor the commitment to principle, but let's be real here. So yeah, his life might have been much more insulated than mine.

That's not even the real Tiananmen Square image.

There's one with tons of dead bodies littering the street. That was the real Tiananmen Square.

What crime did he actually commit ? Nothing the way i can see.

If he had committed a crime, this is still not the way a police officer should react.

There was a video here a day or so ago of a mob of protesters chasing a guy in a maga hat. My thought there was almost the same as in this event. Would you or he have deserved and ass whooping? By principle, hell no. But when principle goes out the door or maybe never entered it in the first place, sure. So should you or he expected an ass whooping? Yeah, I would say so.

When facing a mob or a line of storm troopers, expecting principles to stand is stupid and that kind of stupid deserves what it gets.

And those pictures speak to the authoritarianism of the Chinese government. The picture I posted speaks to individual humanity.

We're going to have to wait for the guy to wake up to find what he was thinking/doing. Perhaps he was asking for help. reporting a crime, warning them of marauders around the corner.

Maybe he lived nearby and had just wandered off, and his nurse was looking for him.

Maybe he thought he would be the "Tank Boy" of the day.

We just don't know.

Putting aside the question of a "push" or a "trip", the immediate zero lack of empathy from the cops when he was bleeding on the ground, was disturbing in itself.

A few seconds of blood pouring out over the concrete were a very LONG "few seconds" before one of the uniformed Einsteins decided medical assistance was necessary.

You compared a light hand brush to a Chinese tank... you feeling alright today? Underwear on after the pants, socks after the shoes type day, or just a one-off lapse in common sense?

Bad move on both him and the cops.
But it was not exactly what I would call a battering ram shove by the cop and the guy falls backwards and goes down like he is Frankenstein with no sense of balance.
For arguments sake, I don’t think he was going for the cops weapon.

you mean should no one else care?

surprise! people care about shlit like this .

I expect , if you can carry a weapon and willfully do a dangerous job, dealing with the elderly is just a formality...

so this is the best case scenario According to your logic... because the old man could have been dead too..

there's no more "oh well" bud...
these protests, if anything showed the real capacity of the police force in the United States... seems like a lot of them aren't really heroes...

let's all thank physics for the commodity of personal recording devices.

The tank was the better option.

It didn't produce blood.
