I am sorry to bother you, whomever replies to this kind of stuff. I am not computer literate, barely survivable, but on some other sites I frequent, there is the option to include others (facebook), or Multi-quote and reply...Is this a possibility here on ATS? Is it to complex or some other code issue? It would be so much easier, for me at least, to follow up with replies to OP's. Some times I want to but there are so many replies to answer and not a lot of time to do so, or time but difficult to do so rapidly. I hope this letter finds you well and that time has been on your side. Or is there a way that I am just not aware of?

Please do not make this place into reddit.

I would at least like to see a "reply with quote" function so we can see to what quote the person is replying. This is especially useful on long threads where a reply might occur a few pages later.

Just press the Quote button instead of the reply button - like I just did here.

It quotes the previous post and puts the cursor for your reply underneath it.

Actually we do have that function. I think you mean what I'm doing now.
I clicked on the "quote" marks at the top of your post, so that a reply edit-box appeared incorporating your post. I have just edited down your post, to show the specfic point to which I reply, and now I'm adding my own response underneath it.

P.S. Anyone who clicks on the bolded "Outtahere", which I did not edit out, will also see the whole of your original post.

Multi-quote is the function I am looking for, quote and reply already exist, or just reply no quote, I want a button that lets me reply in one frame to all that I want to reply too, that way I can just scroll down and answer each one quicker.

Was really hoping to hear from a higher up about this matter, I suppose I am not the first to suggest it, Johnny Come Lately that I am.

Multi-quote is the function I am looking for,
I do multi-quotes all the time, and don't need a new button to do them, in fact I don't see how a button would help me because it wouldn't know which part of the quotes I will trim to include in my multi-quote reply.

Occasionally someone may post a one-liner post and I might include the entire post quoted in my reply in that case, but one-liners are sort of against the rules here so people aren't even supposed to make such posts as a general rule. When the posts are longer, I pick and choose a specific part of the quote to trim and include in the multi-quote reply. How will a button know to do that? If you don't trim the quote, it just makes for bloated and cumbersome reading if the quote includes additional content not addressed by your reply.

Anyway, to do multi-quote, one simple way is to use the existing quote button once, write the reply to that quote, copy the whole thing, refresh the page or go to the previous (or next) page with a post you want to reply to, click quote button again and paste your clipboard contents at the top. Then write your second reply under the second quote. Repeat as many times as you want. But if your browser isn't stable and is prone to crashing, that risks losing your work, so it's a bit safer to do the copying and pasting to a text file, then when you have your 2, 3, or more quotes and replies compiled in the text file, just copy and paste the whole thing to your reply box, and you have made a multi-quote reply.

If I understand what you mean by multi-quote, these are examples of a multi-quote and a multi-reply post I've made with the existing buttons using the techniques described above, no other buttons were needed.

Example of multi-quote:
www.abovetopsecret.com...

Example of multi-reply:
www.abovetopsecret.com...

Also lets say the multi-quotes you want to reply to are on different pages, how would a multi-quote button even work? There are only 20 posts per page here and I frequently reply to a post on the same page and a post on the previous page in a multi-quote. There's no way I can see to have a multi-quote function handle that, but it works just fine using existing buttons as I described above.

The last point is, if something is broken on this site, and it's a significant impairment, it tends to get fixed, but there are still broken things from many years ago that are just annoyances that never got fixed and the people in charge seem to be past the point of adding any new features, so while not any kind of official reply, this is what I observe as a member of 11 years here. Years ago when the upgraded the site they were soliciting suggestions, and implemented some of those, but after that they eventually stopped implementing suggestions, as far as I can tell or remember. So don't take it personally if they do nothing with your suggestion, I think all suggestions get that treatment these days.

My big complaint about the existing quote button is that it should be like the EX button (cloud icon) which puts the opening and closing tags and the text all on one line. That's how it should work. But the quote button very annoyingly used three separate lines for that and I waste time deleting the line breaks because of that. At the very least it's inconsistent between the EX tags and the Quote tags.

Thanks for the reply and advice on how to copy and paste, this is what I had in mind from another website I frequent...

You see, there is an option in every reply to include it in a mass reply format, I am given all the replies and can decide how to respond one after another in the same dialogue box. It sends an alert to any that are subscribed to the thread. This is the function I would like here on ATS.

A thread can have up to 8000 or so replies on ATS, so let's say a thread has 7900 replies, you want to be shown the option to reply to 7900 different posts?

You are being silly, I guess you are not capable of understanding this process, certainly you have decided I am a moron for suggesting this possibility, when in fact, it is already being used elsewhere, replying in multi-quote is easier, and it could be done in increments of 5 or 10 replies at a time.

Maybe I should have phrased it better, so you want to be shown 7900 posts so you can choose the multi-quote option to reply to, say, 5 of those? I didn't mean to suggest you'd reply to all 7900 at once, but I guess that's how you understood my post. Even if you only reply to 5 of them, being shown 7900 posts so you could decide which 5 to reply to is a lot. Does the other place have up to 8000 posts per thread?
