1. There seems to be a few problems with the sanitation of Chinese and Indian made face mask. I highly advise you to read where the mask are made these days.
2. Do not buy mask that are in color (color mask should be avoidable at all cost ) It is now known to cause headaches and other types of illnesses especially for the children and aged
3. Do not let your children wear a mask if they are outdoors and jogging or running ( 2 Chinese children have died so far)
4. When making your own mask, wash any new material first before using it as a mask
5. For added protection, cut out an inner liner for the mask ( 100 % cotton should be use for this ) its cooler in the summer
if the material is for the liner is in color (color cotton cloth ) wash it with a little bleach, it will take out most of the color, may look like a child's
diaper, but it is more healthier for you
6. When buying store bought masks, try to buy only white masks

I'll post later on an easy to make homemade mask. Stay tune

I agree with what you said in the OP. With a few exceptions, most colorings are more toxic to us than white cloth. But a few of the colors actually contain chemistry that may help to kill certain viruses and bacteria, but I do not know if covid will be destroyed. Remember though, breathing through the dies might not be good for our lungs. Washing colored cloth ones well before using is something I would recommend too. Those dies stink before they are washed.

That spray they use at the stores to disinfect stuff sure makes it hard to breath in the stores too. I do not know if that bothers others, but it sure bothers me.

I have some "old school" stock. From about 8 months ago. From a automotive paint supplier(my old business).

I have boxes of N95 masks, the nicer 2 strap ones with the breather valve.

I also have about a dozen masks with charcoal filters in them for organic material.

I should just sell them(might get a pretty penny). I have no intent on ever wearing them for this.

If they're the ones I'm thinking of. (I worked in bodyshops my entire childhood.)

Then yeah, they'll sell for a pretty penny.

I'm sure they are.

But I'd rather keep them for when I paint something in the future than gouge someone because of this crap(plus I don't do online sales).

I mentioned the color 100% cotton clothe because that is what I bought. I couldn't fine white, must have been sold out.
But the importance of the above thread is to stay away from colored store bought mask. They, because of the ink used are highly toxic for some people.
I'll be posting again a simple step on how to make washable mask that serve a purpose of the masks you see people wearing on the streets.
Now that it has been said by many , most masks will NOT stop the virus from entering a person that is cough and spitting near you that has the virus and is sick. That is a fact, but all you can do is try to get away from that person.

Also for those reading this post, it is also dangerous now to sit on bus seats. The virus is on the seats and can linger on the seat for some time. How long, I'll have to ask around on that one.

Another thing I want to mention is something new about my MIM's "Street Talk". This has been in the making but now it is in action.
1. You 'll be seeing smart phones on a stand at entry way with an app to see if you are wearing a mask. If you are not wearing a mask, it will tell you to wear one before entering or "DO NOT ENTER".
2. That is my new street talk for the day.
3. More then likely you'll start seeing the phone entrance at many restaurants in the near future.

Stay tune for June 12th announce of a " a new day of awakening". I can only say that those that are following me, kiss my ... I'm not giving any other clue to the news media other then what I just wrote.

A good way to check if you have a good mask is this..

Put the mask on, now ignite a cigarette lighter. Now try to blow it out.

If you can then you have a useless mask, it won't protect from a virus.

And obviously if you cannot blow it out then thats a good mask you have

I would also suggest washing it in a mild bleach solution each time you wear it for disinfection purposes.

Slightly off topic, the difference between R95 and N95 masks/cartridges is that R is oil resistant and is rated for 8 hours of use. I use the R95 cartridge inserts for my masks. The replacement kits are plentiful in supply and have been all along.

Masks do nothing to prevent the virus entering through the soft tissue of the eyes so are in effect only useful as a preventative measure to help stop people spreading the virus not as a protective measure to stop people contracting the virus.

I'm provided masks in my work but see no point in wearing one unless it's required for places I visit.

Yes, your statement is true and that is why on many of my post have stated, do not wear contacts. But wear eye protection when going outside .

logic says any mask with a weave whose spaces greater than 3 microns do nothing.
...but if it makes you feel safe keep using it

Your pseudoscience is dangerous... telling people to take vitamins as a defence... wear certain colour masks because the chemistry helps protect against viruses...

Come on man.

I see many people wearing masks in the stores now, none of them fits worth a crap. You could not wear a mask like that when insulating or in a dusty environment. I spent lots of time wearing a mask over my lifetime. I worked in dusty situations a real lot. I know a good mask that seals good keeps you breathing better. But, I used masks similar to N95 masks, not homemade stuff. I also have three or four special masks for chemicals, they have canisters on them and are rubber masks. Depending on what the canister is rated for identifies what to use it for. I would use the two cartridge mask if I was going to be in an attic blowing cellulose for a long time, but used a N95 style mask for insulating kneewalls and prepping the attic. That big heavy mask was not necessary for some jobs but blowing a small attic, I would trade off a little dust for convenience and use the disposable mask.

I have been to the doctors many times for breathing problems throughout my work career. They always told me I needed to quit working around dust, my lymph nodes in my lungs were huge from dealing with dust so much, the X-rays showed that clearly. One doctor told me that there are no lymph nodes in the lungs, she was very wrong, I attempted to hand her the medical information on it and she blew me and all the other doctors who said it was so off. She was right, the rest of the doctors, including specialists were wrong. that system is in place for a reason, one in the lung, one in the bronchial tube on the other lung, it is there to help to protect us....but she said it does not exist, even though it is written on at least three reports I had from doctors over the years. She had no evidence, and discounted the evidence of other doctors who treated me. I no longer go to her, she does not listen to anyone, even the professionals. She would order tests and again later order them again saying I never had them done. She never looked at the tests she had anyone go to, maybe because the results did not coincide with her beliefs or diagnosis.

Ok, that was just a rant and most people here know to avoid her as a doctor, she always has patient openings and most doctors do not have openings for new patients....that tells you something right there.

That is not pseudo science, yes, some colorings can kill viruses. Others can poison us mildly. Research the cyano dies. Also, there are flame retardants and other antimicrobial chemistries used in treating clothes these days, wash the masks before using and be aware, some of these chemicals are slow released and are not meant to be used as a mask material.

Deficiencies in a vitamin or mineral can increase the risk of catching a disease, or overreacting to a disease. Many of our bodies enzymes are metal based enzymes, lack of appropriate minerals means you cannot make the enzyme. Vitamins like B12 and even the amino acid Taurine are neuromodulators and keep the body from over reacting to disease. No pseudo science involved, I have supplied lots of evidence of the method of action of these things over the years on this and other sites. I know proteinases well, these are chemicals that can either help a person or tear them apart. I know lots about liver, digestive, and pancreatic enzymes and the metabolic processes and the necessary minerals that are required for these enzymes to form.

I never tell people to take high doses of vitamins, minerals, or foods containing enzymes, I just try to inform them that certain food chemistries can help in certain situations. Deficiencies in minerals or vitamins mess up our metabolism, so do too much of these same compounds. Vitamin D is necessary, a deficiency causes problems, but too much is dangerous and can cause problems too. Same with iodine, we need some, but too much can cause problems....yet people who believe in Iodine supplements in high doses don't pay attention to what too much can cause.

Most of the people in the USA have a deficiency in at least one mineral or vitamin which negatively effects their metabolism. That is why many people take supplements. You can eat all of the leafy greens you want, but if you cannot take the minerals or vitamins out of them from a lacking enzyme it does no good.

The basis of most medicines in this country is what I study and I relate it to food science. I have epilepsy and control it with food chemistry and specialized supplements, it took me years to find diverse ways to treat it.

So what is your expertise, believing in those who profit by making money off of us? I share my knowledge and do not charge a cent and have helped quite a few people over the last ten years fix their diet which resulted in their doctor getting rid of meds because their problem disappeared. I only advise, the people I help need to identify the metabolic intolerances and deficiencies that cause their disease....they need to pay attention and wind up healthy..

Yup, same here. So far I've seen people with the mask below their noses, nose covered but above their mouths. Then the winner is people with beards, the mask isn't going to do you any good with a beard, I was always taught at work for a mask to be effective you should be clean shaven.
