Hello,

Does anyone know what this is / could be?
This was recorded last night. I also have a short video but have no idea how to upload it here...

Thanks so much in advance!

First thought is it has something to do with the light source, the street lamp or what it is.

It´s hard to say without knowing how big it was, what it did, did it move or whatever.

What is your location , what time was the sighting and what did you observe ?

If you have a video upload it to youtube then post the link to it here.

Given the (I guess) streetlight in the picture the orb could be a result of that which is why a description of the object is necessary

Hmmm... it was very far from the light source but it's a possibility...
And yes it was moving slowly and disappeared after a few minutes.

Here's a link to the video recording:

created by the lens of the camera. Such phenomena are called Airy disks in photography.

As it does not appear to move I would guess an out of focus light source, I have seen a video on ATS explaining how cameras produce this effect.

Thanks you for clearing that up everybody!

Uh,, did they explain it though?

Did you actually see the object that you recorded with your naked eye? If so, it was not a lens flare or airy disk.

Its not lens flare it doesn't move with the camera...

Its very hard to tell when its just a white dot in the sky that doesn't move. But i would say its either a Planet or a star

That's my guess is planet or star. You can download an app for your phone where you aim the phone at the night sky and it will identify stars or planets for you, so that kind of app would come handy in a case like this. Stellarium will also help you identify it but it's not quite as convenient.

This video explains how objects can appear with that shape, or other shapes when they are out of focus.

This is from 5:23 in that video showing Venus out of focus, but any star or planet out of focus can look pretty much the same:

Here's a second video that a friend made on the same evening.
Maybe it's the camera after all..

It looks like a droplet of something on the glass through which the video was filmed.

It moves exactly relative to the light source, i.e: the plane of glass, and therefor the droplet on it, and the streetlight did not move relative to each other.

You can also see the small IR LED reflection (moving from lower center of the image, and then to the left) in the same pane of glass, as the camera moved closer to the window.

Check again, I think you are looking at something different. I don't see anything like that in what Yavis posted. Some kind of mix-up I suspect. Or if I'm the one mixed up please post the exact image or video you're talking about for me, and I'll look at it again.
