We've been here before. Between the Spanish flu and the coronavirus, there was "the dreaded Lurgi".
Nowadays a lurgi is a generic, mildly debilitating illness, not serious enough to take the patient to hospital ("I can't come in to work today, I've
got some kind of lurgi"). In the Fifties, the Lurgi was a serious business, threatening the life of the nation.
The story here narrated by Peter Sellers, Harry Secombe, and Spike Milligan, has it all- panic, isolation, quack cures, and origin conspiracy theory.
It has lessons which may be applicable to the current crisis.
Sit down and let me tell you a tale.
