Sounds like exactly where a bunker should be!

Indeed! It’s super remote. In fact, a great deal of it is the Frank Church Wilderness of No Return. It’s one of the largest federally protected wilderness areas in the lower 48. You’re technically not allowed to have anything motorized. I’ve backpacked in there, and it’s PRIMITIVE. We’re talking wolverines and such. If you don’t want to see another person for a while, that’s a good place to wander.

We had some aftershocks again......Cascade had a few decent sized shocks.

Super weird, ive lived up here for (in and out) for over 20 years and never felt one.

They say there was one in the 80s that was smaller than this one and did a lot more damage, but it must have been more shallow

I tell ya tho, i bet if you were standing at the epicenter it felt , looked and sounded like the mountains were coming down

Why would it be removed from the map?

That is the first time I have seen that for such a large quake and people are reporting it all over the area.

For the same reason USGS has been removing many earthquakes for a long time. Not that long ago Russia reported 3 7.5 earthquakes in Russia with different epicenters and different depths, yet USGS erased all but one.

BTW, as i remember in order for a thread to exist it has to have official links in the op. Not to mention that the name of the thread is even wrong. The epicenter occurred close to a small mountain city called Stanley. Stanley is not close to Boise at all. Which makes this thread wrong, and anyone actually reporting news would think this is some other earthquake that occurred in Idaho...

My dad was on top of a ridge by Stanley (elk hunting) & saw the wave move through the trees; he said it sounded like a train going by.

That's kinda cool....to actually see the ripple of an Earthquake. I bet not many can say that.

My mom is in Idaho Falls, about 150 miles away. Not very far considering the size of the quake. She didn't feel a thing. But people have felt it in Washington, Wyoming and even Montana. How weird is that??

Except that's the way it's being reported by the media. As Seen Here (warning it has an auto play video)

As more data is acquired from more locations the epicenter and actual magnitude of an earthquake is refined. Initial reports are generally the result of computer generated alerts.

He said it was an amazing experience. That quake happened early in the morning. He just happened to have gained the summit of a ridge and was watching the draws at first light for elk moving around. He said the wave started off on the horizon and moved right up over him, almost like a crowd doing the wave at a ballgame.

Last I checked, USGS indicated depth of 10Km.

What kind of bunker and who owns it?

Oh and how are they working on it enough to cause an earthquake?

I am not an expert, and there are probably more people with more knowledge than me on earthquakes in the forum.

There are two relatively young fault lines close to Stanley.

You can see them in this map.

www.idahogeology.org...

USGS claims there is a 4% chance that this will produce a larger earthquake in the next couple weeks or so. But more aftershocks of lesser magnitude are probably going to happen.

As for the depth, the deeper the epicenter is the weaker the earthquake becomes, because with distance the magnitude lessens, and technically earthquakes cannot occur close to the surface as two blocks of crust must slip against each other for an earthquake to occur. BTW, larger quakes can occur deeper underground, but with distance the magnitude decreases.

This was rather a shallow quake, but i am not sure if Idaho has a magma chamber that close to the surface like Yellowstone park has.

What a bizarre jumble of randomly strung together words. Is this some type of cryptogram?

Or are you bothered by Phage providing concise, useful facts?
