A magnitude 7.8 earthquake has hit the Kuril Islands. A tsunami watch is in effect in Hawaii. The epicenter was 218 kilometers southeast of Severo. This is a breaking story.

As yet, there is no indication that a tsunami was produced. There are a bunch of buoys up there, some of which should have been affected.

There are several tweets saying that the largest wave would only be 0.3 meters above tide level. None from an official source, but supposedly quoting the Warning Center.

I'm surprised they went to warning level.

The Pacific Coast only got a notice.

No warning, etc.

Tsunami Watch was just cancelled. They said it's too small, and too deep when compared to previous quakes that caused one in that area.

Can you find the PTWS for Hawaii? They've really buggered the site up. All I can get the Pacific Coast.
