Monkey see, monkey do. Or in this case, monkey brawl.Hundreds of monkeys that were once fed by tourists in Lopburi, Thailand invaded a street and pummeled each other as they fought over a single banana this past Wednesday.According to the Daily Mail, the macaques – an Old World species of monkeys that inhabit Asia – are normally well-fed by visitors to the town. But tourism has dropped since COVID-19 fears have increased. The primates were apparently part of two rival gangs of monkeys, those that live in the city and a group that inhabits local temples, the Bangkok Post reported.

It's amazing the chain reactions that happen in eco systems when things change, in this case tourists go away.

Don't believe everything you read in the Daily Mail.

From 2017, for example.

Many other examples. It's what monkeys do.

Those rival gangs would attack you if you tried to sit there and eat your lunch.

The new danger is rival gangs of monkeys.

Depends if they’ve washed their hands for as long it takes to sing happy birthday twice.

Reminds me of the Recent videos taken at Walmarts of idiots fighting over toilet paper.

I had just read this one. Its kind of eerie when you get down to it. This may take the stress off alot of places and keep the Instagram crowd home

Yes but they do seem to be hungry, missing the easy food

That's the bad thing about animals getting used to tourists feeding them.

How can you tell they are hungry?

Or 'Jesus Loves Me' - my 'go to' tune for hand washing.

Unfortunately, the tourism industry, has taken a massive hit in the last two weeks. Particularly, the last 24 hours.

This is my business.

It makes perfect sense, that these wild monkeys were reliant on tourists feeding them.

No doubt. Hawaii is feeling it as well.

I'm not convinced the monkeys are though.

Here's a more "local" article. Nothing about a lack of tourists being the cause.

Well at least they aren't stealing all of the toilet paper, because they probably just throw their poo at you.

Ummm...exactly...they’re right fat little simians...nary a starveling among the tribe...

From the hype...you could imagine emaciated bands of mangy protohumans waving gristle’d femur’s at one another...

Oh...wait...

“My GOD...it’s full of stars”...

I think there might be some deeper lesson to be gleaned from this story - some social commentary or parallels to the human condition - but damned if I'm smart enough to unpack anything beyond monkey brawl.

Now that it's mentioned - it really didn't take much for these monkeys to go from well-fed to Lord of the Flies did it? Or worse - if my reading comprehension hasn't completely shat the bed these little bastards are engaging in territorial invasions now?
So, at this rate we should be seeing a demolished Statue of Liberty sometime in early Fall maybe?

*I, for one, would like to welcome our new monkey overlords.

Ask 10 people under 25 to cook something. I bet 3 can. These monkeys would be around long after those kids would be.
